How does one remove the front dome unit?

How do I remove the 2G RL front dome light unit from the headliner? I've removed the lens covers and the screws, but I'll be darned (or scared) to figure out the magic in getting the unit off the headliner.

I looked at pictures of a removed unit, but it wasn't clear how to get the unit out (see below).

The reason to take it out is that the switch for the rear sunshade is acting up, and I'd like to get in there and see what's going on.

I'm concerned that if I just pull really hard, I'll pull out the black pegs from the roof (in the blue square), or break the clips (red circles).

Any advice is very welcome! If I have to pry -- I'll try, but the headliner seems kind of squishy and the plastic a bit brittle.
