Has anyone replace an HID bulb on the 2nd gen RL?

The service manual says to remove the bumper so that you can remove the lamp housing first. I was wondering if that is really necessary or should I be able to reach back there and remove it?

Just wondering what the difficulty level is to decide whether to take it to the dealer.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

I haven't installed a set on an RL but I have done them on the TL, CL (all gens) and usually we pull the splash guard back and then access the bulbs from behind. I imagine it would be similar. Usually takes about an hour, maybe hour and a half.
