The heat is way too hot!!! Help
I've read some older threads about the heater temp being too hot even at low settings. I have an '05 RL and after the car warms up the heat gets too hot even set at 63-65 degrees. I live in NJ so it's been cold and I appreciate warmth, but this is too much!
Any fixes out there for the problem or should I just get used to melting in my car during the winter?

Since we have an automatic climate control system, the car sets the output of the system based on the temp in the car. In the winter, I get that a little bit also since even if you set the thermostat to 63-65, it might still be 50-55 in the car when you get in specially if your car has been parked out in the cold for a while. This goes specially double if you don't take off your outer coat when you get in the car...
When it gets too hot, I turn it down to 60 so that the car eases up the heat. Or even sometimes, turn it down to 58 or low to trick it into stopping the heat and then turn back up to 63. It should have a more gentle heat then.
These automatic climate control systems sometimes are quirky since they adjust to the temp in the car just like the one in your house.
Hope that helps... just my

Use the heat/temp button up and down for how much heat you want, ignoring the temperature numbers it posts. When you find what you like, note the number and then use that. Remember to turn off your Defrost if you want it to follow your settings, too.
Frankly, I think the interior temp sensor gets cold soaked, as does the surrounding dash material, so the temp sensor is reading artificially low because the surrounding dash is stone cold, and it takes a while for the plastic to warm up.
I concur and opposite is true in summer when dash is hot.
I have to set temp about 5 degrees different in the morning versus afternoon.
I also notice a bias towards outside temp (I believe the system takes that into account as well.) On my 45 minute commute, the outside temp can vary as much as if not more than 30 degrees. (Yes - this is true. I'm in SF area and temp when crossing San Mateo bridge can be 60 degrees and destination is 90+ degrees. Winter is the opposite, but not as big a difference. 50 degrees at destination and still 60 degrees on the bridge.)
In any case, I have to adjust temp setting a few degrees as the outside temp changes.
