Headlight bulb type
Headlight bulb type
Hi All,
So i'm getting the flicker in the headlight and wanted to look at changing out the bulb before taking it to the dealer for something more intrusive (ballast/igniter). Is the bulb something I can change on my own? I mean I don't want to have to take off a fender or something like that.
Also, is D2S the right bulb type? I've seen D2S and D2R but I'm not sure which is the right one.

Sylvania says it is a D2S

Same with Philips, although you have to select a Honda Legend III since this is a European site

Not really. Just make sure you do not touch the (bulb) glass with your fingers and pay attention to how the spring/latch is installed before you take the old one out. Other than that, space might be an issue but I can't tell for sure since I've not looked in there my self.
Good luck!
Good luck!
What year do you have? 06 Manual says definitely a dealer job for the HID low beams, and does not even show you how to access due electrocution danger. It does show you how to change the high beams, however, which are plain old tungsten halogens.
The low beam headlight bulbs are a
type of high voltage discharge tube.
High voltage can remain in the
circuit even with the light switch off
and the key removed. Because of
this, you should not attempt to
examine or change a low beam
headlight bulb yourself. If a low
beam headlight bulb fails, take the
vehicle to your dealer to have it
replaced.

I had my left front bulb (D2S, part 33116-SL0-003) replaced today due to the flicker. It wasn't a minor job..tech had to loosen the bumper. Took maybe 45mins. I wouldn't have believed it would be such an effort, but watched him working on it and definitely took some time.

Well one day after my HID bulb was replaced, I notice that the flicker is still there. Yesterday's service visit was obviously a complete waste of time.
Any thoughts on what the problem could be, if replacing the bulb didn't do it?
Absent any other ideas, I wonder if they could have replaced the wrong side. I saw the tech working on my car and he was doing something with the bumper on the right side. It is my left headlight that is the problem. I assumed that he had to loosen something on the right side to complete the operation on the left, but now wondering if they could have done the wrong one.
Regardless, if they would have taken a couple of minutes after the 'fix' to check out the bulb operation, they would have seen it was still a problem. It begins to flicker about 15-30 seconds after coming on.

I know this is kind of an old post but I wanted to give some information. I have an 05 RL and the head lights started to flicker. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a know issue and they replaced the bulb and it was covered under the warranty. After picking up the car I noticed that the new bulb was a much duller yellow color compared to the bulb they did not replace which was a crisp whit with a blueish tint. Took it back and they said they would replace it again. I picked up the car for the second time today, checked the lights at the dealer and they seem ok (day time). When it finally became dark out I took it for a spin. Now both lights appear much dimmer (dull yellowish color) making be think they replaced the brighter light and not the one they replaced during the first visit. And now there is a noticeable dark spot on the driver site as show in this video...

The paper work the dealer gave me states they used the 33116-SL0-003 bulb which from my research is the correct bulb for the 05-08 RLs. Anyone know why they appear dimmer now or am I just going crazy?
Thanks!

do not have an answer for you, but my dealer wouldn't give the time of day on replacing the bulb under warranty and I even have an extended warranty.
You may have seen my post on another thread where dealer wants $180 labor and $200 for bulb.

Alright, took the car back to the dealer and show them the dark streak. They are not sure what happened during the bulb replacement they performed to cause it. They were only able to solve the problem by replacing the driver side headlight assembly (warranty replacement). Unfortunately now the passenger side head light appears to be a different color (picture to come once the rain stops). The dealer is saying that it’s because the clear lens on the passenger headlamp has been discolored due to age and weathering. I would be ok with this and maybe even pony up the $900 + labor to replace the passenger headlight assembly except for one issue. The only reason the driver side assembly was replace was due to Tischer Acura’s own technician damaging it in the first place. Now because of that technician I have to drive around a ghetto looking RL or pay out of pocket and have the passenger side replaced.
Any recommendations?

Things are just getting worst...
Driving the RL into work this morning I received the AFS warning 3 time and I only have a 2.5 mile drive!!!!

I will never take my RL back to...
