Got my first ticket in the RL

83 in a 65. Cop was pretty cool even though he still gave me a ticket. My first ticket in over a year. I haven't been using my radar detector because the cops around the Denver area use instant-on laser in the city and a detector won't save you in those cases. This one was on the highway and a radar detector probably would've saved me. My detector had been acting up lately too so I just stopped using it back when I was still driving the Prelude. I'm trying to decide now if I'm going to send my Passport 8500 X50 in for servicing or just trade it in on a 9500ix. I think I'll probably go with a laser shifting system eventually.

It always sucks to get a ticket. How much will it end up costing you ?

X50 uses the same technology as the 9500ix, waste of money to upgrade if you ask me.

Keep the X50, send it in for repairs if necessary, and get a ZR4 jammer. Assuming they are legal of course.

If they aren't...drive speed limit.

Do any of you have experience with the ZR4 or any of laser jammer/shifter. Most of the police in the DFW including State Troopers use laser, so getting a speeding ticket is a common occurrence.

I have had ZR3 on my cars for over 3 years and currently am using ZR4. I got hit with laser the same day I bought it and once more two weeks ago. Works great

I still have my ZR3 and a Blinder M47-x up for sale soon.

JRock, don't bother. Buying or using one in TX is a Class C misdemeanor as of Sept. 1st, 2011.

Maybe he could tell you were a racer. I blame VTEC for all of my tickets.

You know I used to have a detector...and it just made me lazy....I've been driving without for about 5 years now, and the only difference is I'm much more alert as to potential places for the Police to sit, and I haven't got a ticket since...and yes I exceed the posted limit quite often, but usually only on limited access, divided roadways.

In Illinois at least, the Interstate is the only place where a radar detector doesn't help you much -- the police usually speed through traffic, picking off speeders from behind by timing them without radar use. Off the highway, the detector has alerted me plenty of times.

an alert person is mandatory, detector or not. Detector helps when your eyes can't but there is no substitute for plain common sense. If you got a car staying on your butt, slow down and let it pass, confirm it's not a cop and then blow them away.

Never leave the house without a detector and jammer. Either one of them broken I drive the speed limit and watch EVERY single car pass me.

Outside of the city limits, a Laser is VERY rare in TX. In my county, the Sherrif drive with their K bands on all the time, and they can be picked up a mile away IF you have a detector. There is no amount of persuading you can use to make me believe you can speed without one and always avoid tickets. I know because I've been caught by Ka band at night with the detector (he had the radar off until he was close). That said, stay with 5 mph, and you will not get a ticket. Stay under 10 over, and you can talk your way out if you know how to kiss ass. Over ten is just what mood the officer is in.

I've never received a ticket or even been pulled over for doing anything less than 10 over. I typically drive 10-20mph over depending on the area, traffic and situation. I haven't used a radar detector in a few years. I'm very watchful of my surroundings and always on the lookout for cops. Yes, I do get tickets once in a while. I pay them and go on with life. I look at them as the nominal fee that I pay to drive over the speed limit. I probably get let go on a warning half the time I get pulled over regardless of how fast I'm going.

Me too, 53 in a 35, which I still cannot believe. What a waste of a way to get a ticket. There is an interstate here which is tons of fun to drive fast on. There are always a few meat heads in BMers and Benzes and Chargers going the fastest, way too fast, and making me feel safe accellerating between 60 and 80 without much risk. Now I find myself hitting the brakes at yellow lights and letting go of the gas a 5 mph over the limit. My head tells me the RL is just a machine, but it really feels disapointed when it can't be driven the way it clearly wants to be. I fear that I let it down after only 3 months of ownership. Never happened in my Highlander...
