Can't remember, what size tires were you running?

I am running stock Michelin tires from new. The return trip was not as good. I stopped at the same gas stations to keep things consistent. The mileage back was 25.8 average with head winds, rain and cold air temperatures. I will see if I can find the gas receipts with the mileages.

06 RL with 33K miles, original tires, 32 psi cold, 29-31 mpg on hwy 65 (flat as heck) from chicago to Indy, 70-80mph. 16-18 mpg locally in Chicago, always use premium fuel (93). Thought I had a lead foot in the city but some getting 11mpg, wow, I guess I don't feel too bad now.

I took a 2,500 mile trip in August to PA and NJ and averaged 26.5 mpg. Go as high as 28 on some parts.

info from my latest trip:
Outbound 380 miles. Ave speed = 70; MPG = 25
Premium gas, tires all 33/34 psi; 2 mountain passes = Mt Shasta and Siskiyou; rest flat
Return 380 miles. Ave speed = 64; MPG = 22
Premium gas, tires all 33/34 psi; 2 mountain passes = Mt Shasta and Siskiyou; rest flat but significant wind and rain
Assuming lower mpg on return was due to wind

are you guessing average speed or is that what the car trip told you?

The last time I averaged 75 My speed was generally in the 90-100 range for most of the road...

Ave speed as calculated by Trip meter. I was surprised that the ave was exactly 75 (and mpg was exactly 25). I was going 80 most of the time on the outbound. Weather on return kept my speed down.

I have no idea how you manage mileage so high, are you rolling on low resistance tires or something?

No, regular Mich Pilot Sport tires

I did not think my mileage was high as others here have reported higher.
My mileage goes down significantly above 80 mph, so if you are going 90+ you are probably getting below 20 mpg.

I generally don't go over 90, I tend to be in the 75-85 range depending on speed limit. But I don't see anything much over 21mpg...

Same with me! I am jealous of all the "high" mpg numbers on this thread! Even when I baby the pedal, I get 20 mpg.

maybe the roads are all on the level, like no hills...where I drive it's constantly up and down up and down. That must be it...

Just drove from Chicago to Orlando/Tampa through Chattanooga/Atlanta and got 25.5mpg on the way over, mostly on cruise control, averaged 66mph (including some local). Around 70mph average (never hit over 80) on the way back and got about 24.5mpg. Car loaded with wife and 2 kids and a trunk that barely closed with luggage and the house we carried with us.

Maybe you folks are driving in the D3 mode? This is only gears 1-3, MD is Manual and Over Drive...5 speed. The D3 mode runs about 2000 rpm higher.

I am driving in the D mode and got 21.1mpg past 500 miles mostly higway, average speed 51mph.

Anyone who says they average 70mph with speeds not exceeding 80mph are probably not going by car mid.

I wish it was that simple. The only thing I can think of is that the car is riding on the same Pirelli P Nero Zeros but they were purchased in sets of 2 about 10k miles apart. This is the only thing that bothered me when I bought the car. I still find it hard to believe that it would affect me up to 5 mpg!

The only factor here that I can think of would be the tires and the rolling resistance they have on the road. The cars are the same. We all drive differently, but not that much to affect mileage that some of you all are getting. I am headed to Los Angeles in a week, I will report to you what I get.

It's not a matter of the MID being inaccurate, just doing a lot of their driving in the mid to high 70's.

I didn't say MID was inaccurate...I said they were probably not going by the mid...

I reset mine at every fill up. At anything over 200mi I couldn't average more than 21...
