Fuel Injector plntle caps With or Without?
Hi
I found on one of the injectors, the pintle cap was broken and a piece missing. I didn't want to put it back with 3/4 of a pintle cap (didn't want pieces falling into the chamber) so I took out whatever was left. To keep things balanced, I am removing pintle caps on the other 5 injectors and plan to run without pintle caps. Anyone see that this isn't such a smart idea?
There are aftermarket pintle caps out there but I think they are cheap Chinese made ones and may not last in there for too long and may create more problems if pieces break off in there. If I don't have them, there is nothing to break off and fall into the chamber...right? I know it will change the flow pattern a little but they all will be somewhat equal at least. Also I have to be extra careful not to damage the pintle when I handle the injectors.
Also if you see the pictures, the original pintle cap seems to be embedded into the metal where as the aftermarket ones just go over the nozzle. (I had to cut off the original along the metal as it doesn't just come off cleanly.)
Any views on this idea?

I'm curious and this may be a stupid question but rather than do that, why didn't you just buy a new injector to replace the one broken one?

Good question. From what I could observe, injector is working as well as the other five. I checked resistance of them and they all were between 11.2 to 11.5 ohms. Also from what I've read, it is best to replace all injectors together to keep them balanced and I didn't think that was necessary...car runs well.

Anyone know what max temperatures are these injector nozzles under? also whether the aftermarket pintle caps have performed well.
I am trying to decide whether leave the nozzles naked or put the aftermarket ones.
BTW, one of my worries was since one cap was broken, others might also be ready to break off.

why not contact witchhunter performance WitchHunter Performance - Injector Cleaning & Flow Testing Services or cruizin performance Fuel Injector Cleaning and Testing to have them tested, cleaned if needed, and new caps put on? call one of them if you want to know what kind of caps they use.
