Front license plate

Do many of you drive around without a front license plate? I caught my leg on mine recently (while walking around the front in a tight garage) and angrily took it off. I like the looks much better. In the state of Washington you're suppose to have one but I think I'm going to try driving around a while without it. I've noticed quite a few of you have photos of your car without the front plate.

I'm in Colorado where a front plate is required. The TL has never had one in going on 6 years of ownership and the RL has never had one going on 3 years of ownership. I have been pulled over multiple times in both of these vehicles and never questioned about it once. Some states like CA and NY are much more strict from what I've heard.

Even though I have the Stow N Go plate, I still drive with my plate displayed because CA cops are asshats. I stow it for photos and meets, but in the event that I forget to display it and IF I get pulled over, I've rehearsed saying "I'm just coming from a photoshoot, I forgot to flip it up" or "my girl drives the car sometimes and she must have forgot to put the plate up"

I've never once had a front plate on any of my cars and I live in CA. I also rarely speed as I got that "out of my system" when I was younger. So far I've never gotten a fix-it ticket.

I don't ever automatically give LEOs probable cause for a stop. You probably won't get a ticket, but they can pull you over for no other reason.

I counted cars without front plates on a trip to a store today. 6 of 100 counted cars did not have front plates. Many more than I would have guessed.

People have received tickets on their parked car for not displaying a front plate. For me, it's not worth the risk. YMMV.

I live in Washington state as well and have seen many cars drive around with no front license plate even though it's required. I think it's just luck of the draw on what kind of cop you encounter. Some could care less, some will pull you over just for that alone... others will even pull you over for having a plastic cover over the plate (even if it's clear!).

I'm pretty sure that no front plate infraction is not a moving violation so it doesn't affect your insurance, so as long as you are willing to pay the potential fine if you get caught, I would do it. Cars look so much better without it.

It's worth the risk to me. I actually have tinted plate covers over both our rear license plates as well...also illegal.

I've asked a few cops about the whole thing and they've all told me it's not worth the hassle to pull people over for it. My wife had to go pick up a stolen safe from the police department one time, (long story), and as the cops were loading it into the trunk one of them made a remark about her "illegal plate cover". She's a goody two-shoes and apologized about it. He said he could care less and that he was just giving her shit. She didn't realize it was illegal at the time when I put it on her car. Lol.

Yes it's easier to claim ignorance on plate covers and get away with it. But for the front plate requirement, it actually says Front Plate still required in Caps on the registration (here in Washington state) so when you say you didn't know they hand you back your registration and say read that! Lol

I live in so cal.
Just fixed my second license plate fix it ticket.
Every time the courts charge 25 bucks for paperwork fees plus I have to drive down to the chp office to get it checked.

50 bucks later. I'm leaving it on.

If I ever get questioned I'm just going to play stupid and tell the cop the car didn't come with a front plate bracket and I just never got around to getting one.

IF I ever get pulled over I'm going to blame my coworkers, that it was a practical joke.

And if the cop was scummy enough to pull you over for this anyways, he'd probably say, have your coworkers pay the ticket then!

I agree these cars look so much better without a front plate, but having already been stopped in my other car for no front plate showing, (it was behind the bra), I keep the front plate on the RL. However, I have inverted the bracket and modified it slightly so now the plate is about 4 to 6 inches lower. I think that's a step in the right direction. I like the look.
