Was waxing my car the other day and noticed that my front bumper is suffering from a bad case of road rash. Lots of little dings from rocks I guess. I would like to repair and then 3M clear bra I guess. Anybody have any info on how to repair the pits and dings in the front bumper? I tried claybars and cutting compound but no good. Thanks

 

You could get aggressive with wet sanding which should cut into most of it but chances are it would need a repaint.

I had the same issue on mine. I made a comprehensive insurance claim. Paid my $100 deductible and got the front bumper repainted like new. My insurance record is perfect, so making these type of claims every once in a while won't increase your rates.

 

Had my entire front bumper resprayed, including the hood, and then applied a clear bra. While I was at it I had the chrome slats in the grill painted black. Result looked great.

Then I had a clear bra applied. Looks brand new....and now it's durable.

 

Thanks to all who replied. Great ideas. @DanL07RL Did you clear bra your headlights as well? Just cleared mine for the second time this year. They look great now but would like to not have to do so often if possible.

BTW, most tint shops refer to these "clear bras" as "paint protection." It's a clear film. I had paint protection applied to my headlights.

 

Depends on what insurance you have... I know for a fact most of them have so-called "accident/claim free" discount.
Moment you have a claim, there goes the savings ... some other insurances call it safe driver discount or whatever else...

Best is to check with the insurance prior to claiming anything.

 

This sort of damage may fall under "comprehensive" coverage and I don't believe that raises rates.

Correct. I made a comprehensive claim and my deductible is $100. Now, whether it raises your rates or not is dependent on your insurance situation. For me, I have no tickets nor any at-fault accidents on my record. I'm also not a young kid. The claim did not raise my rates. About two years ago I also made a collision claim against a really bad door ding on my RDX that went down to the metal. Unfortunately that cost me $500 (collision deductible) but since my RDX is 100% ding-free and still looks new, I paid it.
