A fond farewell to my RL
A fond farewell to my RL
A spectacular decade of RL ownership comes to a close as I say goodbye to my '06 RL with 157k on the clock. I'm selling it to my brother, which tells you how confident I am that it still has many more good miles in it.
These cars were incredibly ahead of their time. Last month I was reading about the amazing new $44,000 2022 Golf R. Its bragging point: torque-vectoring AWD with electromechanical clutches that can direct 70% of power to the back, and 100% of that figure to the outboard wheel. Sorry, German car nuts, I've seen that show before.
I'll keep an eye on this board going forward. All the best to all of you as you continue to enjoy your leather-and-wood interiors, surround sound stereos, aluminun body panels and suspension members, overspec'd brakes, smooth-revving V6 power, magnesium seat frames, carbon fiber driveshafts, hand-rubbed paint finish, and everything else that made these cars so spectacularly beyond most people's knowledge that they even existed. I've always known that no thief would ever bother with my car, simply because they have no idea what it is and there's no market for it if they swipe it. Their loss was our gain.
