Question Floor Mats

I have the Standard Black mats that came with my 06 RL. I was wondering what you guys suggest as far as cleaning goes.

I pull mine out... soak them... and pour a solution of Oxyclean and Laundry detergent on them...then take a nylon brush (like you would use to scrub a floor) and scrub them... hang dry...viola'

Having all weather mats and 200 miles on the car, I would not be able to give you direct information.

However, on all my other cars, I use a Bissell carpet cleaning machine, the kind you get at Costco for about $200. While I mostly use for the house, it has a stair attachement which works great in cars, especially when the wife and kids spill coffee/soda on the carpet of the minivan. It also does well taking out general dirt and grime. My other cars have a light gray or parchment/ivory carpet which shows dirt really well, especially coffee and coke.

After you run the carpet cleaner, I run the car with doors closed, heat and a/c on and within 1 hour, everything has dried up. Especially good for the carpets under the floor mats. Cleaning the floor mats is relatively easy. It is the "wall to wall" carpet in the car with all the padding that soaks up all the liquids that is the hard part.

My suggestion

I just pulled the carpet mats out and replaced with all weather mats. Then in the spring or summer use the carpet.

I'm keeping my all weather mats on all year. The original carpetted mats are still in plastic.

I use Meguiars Carpet cleaner and then follow with ScotchGuard spray.

For small soiled areas, I use 303 Cleaner and Spot Remover. When I want to clean the entire mat, I use Resolve Carpet Cleaner.

I carry Weathertech rubber mats in the trunk and place on top of the OEM mats when weather conditions demand it.
