Exhaust Tips

I have read several threads about having the exhaust tips replaced due to heavy carbon build up. I have cleaned and scrub the tips and they will not come clean. Some of you have had some success on have the tip replaced under the original Acura warranty . I currently have 33,000 miles and still covered under the original Acura warranty. I was at my local dealer last week and the Service Tec told me that this problem is not covered under the Acura Warranty due to normal wear. I have owned a 03 TL-S and a 04 MDX and I did not have this issue.

With that said I have two questions:
1. Is this problem only on the 05 RL’s?
2. Are the exhaust tips covered under the Acura Warranty?

Just as a side note, they are replacing under warranty the driver side door gasket, driver and passenger door lock buttons, driver seat memory buttons, and the paddle shifters due to they are pealing.

You are correct, there has been a couple thread about the 05 RL exhaust tip (soot build up on the bumper) issues. So I won't reiterated what has been already said.

1. The exhaust tip issues is ONLY on 05 RL, as the 06+ was redesign to stop the soothing.

2. I believe there was a TBS on the issues, however not every TBS = automatic warranty claim repair. It is up to the discretion of each Acura dealership (but from most thread poster and myself included, we all got the 06's upgrade free of charge under warranty) YTD the new tips has fixed the issues completely! WOW! If you got them to replace those minor peeling (cosmetic issues) under warranty, you should have no problem convincing them that the exhaust needs to be replace too!

I was shocked when he told me they would replace buttons and door gasket but not the exhaust tips. I would image the exhaust tips are a quick and easy fix with nice $$ margins for the dealership.

^^^

I think the issues (06's upgrade) has to do with the soot build up on the bumper, not the exhaust tip itself.

I use Mothers metal polish on mine and buff with a Mothers polishing ball that attaches to my drill. It makes the job quite easy and does a great job!

Once you get them clean, keep them that way and you'll avoid future headaches.

I was able to get the dealership to replace the exhaust tips under the Acura warranty. The key to mention soot build up on the bumper (thanks Rhlieu).
