Drl Off

Just wondering if there is a way to turn off DRL in 05 RL. Also can someone explain how DRL works in 05 RL?

I tried to do it by pulling the fuse but I got a big warning light telling me there was a DRL problem. If you find out how to do it without triggering the warning light please post it - there is nothing I would like more than to be able to turn off those lights.

I believe there is another thread from months ago that will answer your question in more detail. The short answer is that I believe it is very difficult, if not impossible to defeat the DRL. The DRL turns on the high beam bulbs at a reduced power (something like 20% power) when the regular lights are off or in the auto position and the light sensor detects daytime light levels. The whole idea of DRL is to make your car more visible to others and thus help to avoid collisions. Up here in Canada, DRL's have been the norm for many years and have made a difference in collision rates (sorry, I can't quote an exact study or exact results, but I do recall reading a newspaper article expounding the virtues of DRL's) . The DRL's are most effective on overcast days or at dusk and dawn when many people have not turned on their headlights making their cars very difficult to see. Once more and more manufacturers incorporate the DRL technology into their vehicles, you will get fewer "funny looks" from people who think that you are driving around in broad daylight with your headlights on.

As a side note, the insurance industry is pushing for DRL's and they usually are successful at getting safety related features added to cars. All they have to do is to award "five star" ratings to only those cars equipped with DRL's and it won't take long for all vehicles to be so equipped.

Don't take offense, but why would you want to defeat a feature that makes everybody safer?
