Drive Train

I've read quite a bit about the drive-train issues the RL's having at around 25K. Does anyone know how many of them have to have a problem before Honda/Acura considers a recall? Or will they only recall if there's a 'safety' issue?

Just an opinion based on memory from an OLD research paper in school. I was always under the impression that "recall" was associated with safety. This is an old article after a cursory Google, that kind of says there was a grey area. It's an old one, but sheds a little light.

So unless the RL drivetrain problem is causing people to die or get injured, I think it will not get a "recall" status.

I have only heard about a couple. I think that's hardly enough to qualify for a recall.

It has been the center bearing on the driveshaft, it is covered under warranty, no big deal.

Interesting aside... I have a friend with a ES350 and evidently they're having big problems with their transmissions. Lots and lots of transmission failures under 2500mi's. They've also had issues with wind noise at highway speed. Guess even the Big Japanese Co's have reliability problems with some of their parts. I would rather it be a drive-shaft ..than a transmission. (Knocking wood)

Well I guess since"you've" only heard of 'a couple' ... everything must be alright. I feel better already

Wow, aren't we a little testy?

My point was that it doesn't seem widespread yet, and it doesn't seem to be a safety issue.

Look at what it took for them to recall the 5-spd transmissions on the 2nd gen TLs, Odyssey's and MDXs, and that was more of a safety issue.
