Diff fluid change

After reading the various posts here on how to drain and refill the diffs, I tried to do it today. Trouble is in the rear there are 2 drain and fill units. one has the drain and fill facing the rear of the vehicle, and the other has the drain and fill on the left side of the vehicle. Are these both diffs, or is one a transfer case ? do they all take the ATF fluid??

Thanks!

Confused!

There are multiple chambers in the diff. You need to drain and fill them both.

Thanks JPSMAN, and in the front only one, plus the tranny on the left under the plastic guard? Everything takes ZF-1 ATF, right?

if i was you i would go to the dealer. So you dont get the wrong oil's and also you may need to change drain plug gaskets.

ATF Z1 is the fluid used in the differential. And yes there are 2 drain and fill holes. One takes around 3 quarts the other less than 1.

Thanks everyone! I did the job today and it took me less than an hour to do the front and 2 rear diff drains and fills as well as the tranny. I used the ATF-Z1 fluid everywhere, but did notice that in some of the diffs an oil that was not red was in there. Maybe some po had filled with the wrong fluid??

Anyway, it was pretty easy, only trouble was getting to the tranny fill bolt-- that was annoying, as discussed in other posts!

My next project is to change the drivers side HID bulb. This maintenance is fun!! And look at all the $$ you save by doing it yourself!
Total cost for the diffs and tranny was 6 quarts of ATF and a few crush washers (that I got from Acura). Oh, and I did buy a hand pump that fits right onto the quart containers of ATF to pump the fluid up into the diffs. easy!!

The front transfer case does not use ATF. The fluid should have been a dark goldish color, you need to use 80W-90 gear oil in there.
