Decisions....used 05 RL
Looking to buy a used RL, narrowed down to 2 options
1) Black on Black ASPEC, 72k private owner, excellent condition, all service records, one owner, etc etc. $18k firm.
2) Black on Taupe, 40k, excellent condition, all service records, one owner, $19k firm.
Drove both of these, and you can definitely notice the difference in the suspension on the ASPEC and the wheels are really nice, brushed black chrome?
I guess my question is, how much more of a premium do you think the ASPEC is worth. Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to be the body kit, wheels, suspension and ASPEC decal on trunk?
Thanks for any input....

I am actually just thinking about putting my RL up for sale, we shall see. The Rims are $1600 and the suspension you can get for $600, with tires and suspension installed, that comes to about $3000, give or take a few bucks. I don't have the bodykit on my RL, just didn't like it that much, but that is about $1200 or so, sounds about right.

Personally, I would always go for the lower mileage.
Also, I have read about more problems with the 05's than later years, only because it is the first year and they were working out the bugs...nothing like the first year of a GM car mind you...not really big problems, but kind of annoying...so maybe wait for a nice 06.
BTW, I do not believe black RL's ever came with taupe interiors, only parchment and ebony. I think the parchment is nice color, but really hard to keep clean over the years.

Thanks for the input guys....
2 new developments
1) ASPEC is now 17k, motivated seller
2) The 40k car still firm at 19K but has an issue with the ALS not working, sounds like a $700-800 repair? I can live without that feature but now the price difference is $2k vs the ASPEC

My vote goes to the lower mileage one as well. You get to mod it yourself & it wasn't driven as hard (one reason many ppl get a-spec in the first place).
You never get face value on mods when you sell a car either.. even oem..

The RL has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis???
What is wrong with the AFS? A common mis-perception is that the AFS does not work because on start up, only the right beam swivels to show that it is working. The left beam does not swivel by design on start up, so it will not blind on-coming traffic if you are parked at the side of the road.
If the light on the dashboard is on, that may be another issue altogether. There was a TSB 06-049 that applied to all 05 RL's requiring replacement of the AFS module. This is an example of an 05 bug that had been largely worked out with 06's, and even more so with 07 and 08's.

Wow since you posted this at the exact time I posted my reply, I didn't get to see it. In light of that, maybe the A-Spec would be the way to go if you plan to eventually add those mods anyway..

Cut a deal last night, picking up the car later this week Friday, cant wait!
With the money I saved, I got a Fidelity Extended Warranty on the electronics. Bonus: when my local dealer ran the VIN, to our suprise, I still have 16 mo and 25k left of an ACURA CPO warranty on the drivetrain.
Will post pics when I bring her home
Thanks!
