Is the dealer leading me astray?
I brought my 06 RL for the first service and oil change. (at around 7000 miles)
They wanted to flush out all the fluids including the differential and transmission. I have never heard of having to do this so quickly? They wanted over 200 dollars for this as well. I told them to hold off for now.
Any comments on whether this is really needed?
Thank you for your comments

Before they change the fluids, ask them what the going price is for the bridge they have for sale?
Perform the maintenance in the intervals described in the service manual and nothing more (the exception may be more frequent oil changes - i.e. every 3,000-3,500 miles for conventional motor oil).

Differential and transmission fluids don't need to be changed until at least 15,000 or even 30,000 miles- check your manual.

Acura dealers try to expand rountine services
I experienced the same thing with my Acura dealer - on my MDX, not my 05 RL which only has 20,000 miles.
My wife called for a price on the 30,000 service for the MDX and they quoted $585. When I heard that, I looked at the manual, and called them back to get a quote of doing the items listed (differential fluid, front and rear; oil, air cleaner, tire rotate). That came to $215. So what was the othre $370 for? "inspecting things".
Consumers need to wake up and begin to question what a dealer is really doing when they service the car. You shouldn't have to pay $585 for a 30,000 mile service on a MDX! I expect this with German vehicles.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure the RL service manual recommends against a tranny flush, which is also the recommendation for my Odyssey-they recommend three drain and fill services instead of a flush. I can't imagine why anyone would need a differential flush-there is not much fluid there to begin with. I did my own diff drain and fill-it appeared much more difficult than it actually was. I plan to do the same when it is time to drain/fill the tranny.

This seems to be a trend with Acura's service dept. I'm sick of getting quotes that don't make sense. My "B" Service indicator just went off. One dealer quoted me $165.00 and the other quoted $86.84. That's almost a 50% difference! This for what basically boils down to an oil change and tire rotation. When I confronted the dealer that quoted the $165.00, all they could say was it included tire rotation, visual inspection, and test drive. Yeah, a test drive up my a$$....

Do you know if the dealer just rotates the tire or balances it also. If you go to Americas Tire co and pay $15 for each tire then its covered for lifetime of the tire rotation and balance. If you just want to rotate the tires its free at Americas tire co. You dont have to buy the tires from them for that.
