Curse of the Black Paint +5 Years
Curse of the Black Paint +5 Years
Case: 2005 Black Acura RL
Today, I noticed what looked like watermarks along the strip between the roof and door on the drivers side. After rubbing one of them, it is the clear coat coming up on that strip.
The necessary solutiion is to repaint the roof and re-clearcoat and blend into the pillars. Not a bad tactic since I already had a scratch between the moonroof and windshield from some crap flying off the road.
What kind of dollars will this cost?
Also for a very short-term solution, I thought of popping the other raised clearcoat spots and applying some of my wife's clear nail polish to the areas.
Would that make things worse?
I was hoping the RL's paint would be different than my wife's black 2003 Acura TL which has some non-intended silver streaks along the tops of the doors. But the absence of lead in paint today makes it all suck.
Thanks.

Are you sure it isn't the adhesive left over from those plastic coverings they put on cars when they're made from the factory? I also have a black RL and had many of those on the car. I had comments from a clearbra guy that said the clear coat was coming off, but I knew for a fact that it wasn't. A little 3M adhesive remover removed the adhesive without any fuss.
