Crummy residuals

Hi gang. I am just about done with my E320 lease and I am hot on the market for an RL.

However, one thing is really surprising me. The residuals on a RL are not very good. 50% for 3 years, 40% for 4 years. That's about 8% less than mercedes. The E320 has a 57% residual at 3 years and 48% at 4 years.

I always thought Acuras had huge resale value. Why the low residuals on these cars?

The RL simply hasn't sold very well. Buy prices have been as low as 40-42k from what I remember.

Whatever you do, go not get your car appraised! I just came back from CarMAX and they gave me the highest offer compared to other dealerships (I'm trying to cut back expenses) for $37K. It's pretty bad already and only going to get lower in a couple more months when Acura plans another small update to the RL.

The residuals are tough because residuals are a factor of MSRP, and the car is being discounted by $6-8K off of MSRP by the dealers for the past year and a half. I mean, that's about a 15% haircut out the front door, so of course the residuals are lower.

The good news, though, if you're looking to lease, is that there's heavily subvented leases available from Acura finance. This is one case where a private leasing company won't do you as well as the manufacturer.

And really, a 50% 36-month residual is pretty much middle of the pack for the rest of the non-MB car world. Comparing residuals to Mercedes of pretty much ANY car will leave you wanting -- MB have traditionally held their value very well, their residuals are high (but their leases are practically never subvented by the manufacturer, except on base models.... and the lease cap costs are not deeply discounted from MSRP) and if that's what you're used to leasing, then you'll have to get used to new levels of depreciation when going to just about any other car.

Hi, I read ur 5/5 posting about 6-8K off sticker. I got a price of 46K on an 06' w/Tech Pkg, do you think the price is right and is it a good time to buy now?

Do you know if they are making any changes to the appearnce for 07' to the RL?

Thanks for any info you can give me. Nelcue
