Coolant reservoir cap

Do you guys know if its safe to drive with the cap cracked? Its still on the reservoir. Does it have to be sealed tight in order for it to suck the coolant? I have a 4 hr drive and i think its been cracked and just didnt notice. Looks like the tech overtightened it.

You're going to start losing coolant every time the engine heats up. I would replace the cap before driving any long distance.

When you say losing coolant, do you mean because it will spill out through the cracks?

I'm thinking of the coolant overflow reservoir, if that's what you're talking about. Being hooked up to the radiator system, it would release steam when the coolant heats up. Same as cracking a radiator cap on a hot engine.

The cap isn't going to be astronomically expensive. I'd just replace it and not have to worry about it.

a broken cap would cause air to enter the cooling system and also under all that pressure the coolant will be forced out and youll run low. Take care of it asap or else youll be looking into some new head gaskets
