Cool "finds" and features of the RL (Did you know.... )

This is an awesome thread. Some on here had mentioned why such a thread when it's all in the manual. Besides the manual being often a look something up that went wrong, or a usual settings find, to find all this stuff, one would have to empty the battery sitting in with the manual and try and find things like I did with the Nav & bluetooth alone. This thread is just fantastic.
I had another rave ready but it sure goes into this thread and no one mentioned it:
To dial from your phone and continue with HFL, or if you walk into your car and drive while on the phone, you press talk and say "transfer".

Yeah i went and tried. Nothing turns it off.
Someone in this thread said you can set music volume to play lower once you re-enter the car. No one said how.
The auto unlocked i tried it when i turn my headlight stick to off it works. But if i leave it on AUTO like i always do, it won't.

Unlock when shifting to park is a setting in the MID menu. Should be options for shifting to park, turning off engine, just driver's door, or all 4.
Never heard of the music setting, but my guess is it's in the audio menus.

However, my 2002 Audi used to have a radio setting to start volume always on 8 or 10, etc. in case this https://acurazine.com/forums/second-.../#post14294626 was the case.

yea that's done. Only I found out that since I leave my headlights on AUTO, it doesn't consider I'm done to leave the car. I must turn OFF my headlights, then when you put it in park, they unlock.

There is a bug in some '05 models with the auto lights. Now that I'm thinking about it further, I know one problem was the car dinging at you when the door was opened, but maybe they still turned off on their own?
#342
On the '05, they DO turn off on their own, even though it would ding when you opened your door. Starting in '06 they fixed this bug.

Remote start.
Remote start is standard on the Caddy STS, even the V6. Shouldn't be a safety issue really, as long as it's auto-trans; it's the sticks where the factories won't install them (and probably with good reason).
I also wish the RL offered remote start. Strange that it offers keyfob window-down but not window-up.

Sorry but I'm glad they didn't put remote start in it and push start ... Do u know how easy it is to steal a car with that..just a $100.00 remote and they can steal your car and unlock it. I love the fact that one %99.9 of thieves don't know that the car can be key started.. But fun fact you can pop off the starter cover and use a key .
#346
It would be interesting to test if one removes the fob battery, opened the car with the key, and starts it and see what happens.
Sometimes it flashes 'remote ket not detected' in the dash, but it drives still. i dunno what that's about.

Watch under world on discover, on car jacked . that show is crazy will blow your mind
I'd love to know where you can find a $100 remote from. Also push button start cars are not that easy to steal had it been that easy manufacturers would be more concerned about the chances of it being stolen. It's not just about having a remote and off you go. The fob needs to be specifically for our car in our case ours happens to be quite expensive. Next it would have to be programmed to the car, which can't be done unless the vehicle has been taken to Acura with the new fob to be programmed. Without the programmed fob you will not have access to the car nor will it start. Plain and simple. It's not just about having a remote.
#348
You'll be able to drive the car until it's turned off. Unfortunately that's one thing manufacturers haven't figured out yet.

WTF is going on in here?
Keyless Access cars, or at least Acuras, have immobilizers. The immobilizer chip is encrypted and programmed specific to the unit in the car. The RL chip is in the base of the physical key. You do not need a fob to drive the car as long as you have the key, but conversely, you can't start it with just the fob and no key. You don't have to take out the batteries to consider the scenario RL09 introduced. What if your batteries die? Those are real use case scenarios that engineers have to account and design for.
For remote start, you must leave one of the immobilizer chips in the car (typically the whole key gets put in the steering column). They only way to steal that RL would be if you had a programmed fob to unlock the car as well.

"Vented locks "Not sure if this has been address before, i stumbled across it while driving on the highway. If you put your hand by the interior handle, you can feel the air from outside some kind of vent. This goes for all the handles front and rear of the car.
#354
It's a design flaw.
Back to reality... I noticed If you have the air up on full blast and press the voice recognition button it will automatically slow the air down so the recognition system can fully understand your voice.

I thought that too. I found mixed reviews this morning. Some say it's a leak, others say it's to relieve pressure in the cabin. If i recall in old cars sometimes you had to push the door to open it from pressure.
A reviewer summoned a Bernoulli principle to demonstrate.
What I noticed is that even when it was extremely cold, i felt no cold air come in. It only leaked air in when the moon-roof was tilted up.
it'd be interesting to ascertain if this is on purpose or an old seal.

[QUOTE=JJones91;15758932]And vented locks are a feature how? Lol.
It's a design flaw .. Lol
I did however forget to mention the moonroof needs to be tilted.. " Design flaw" for all 4 door locks?? I don't think so

yeah, maybe not an intended feature, more like a side effect.
I dont know of any one who drives with their hands in the door locks.
if it only happens when the moon roof is tilted, then its obviously venting but not to cool your hands.....

Driving automatic many tend to rest the left arm on the door arm rest. The handle breezes right on fingers.
If it's a leak, on other handles as well, then maybe it should leak all the time?
Fact that u need the moonroof open tells me it's otherwise airtight and probably not a flaw. But im still uncertain.

You can not close the trunk with a key fob inside. The trunk lid will 'pop' back open.
I found this out several weeks ago when we were leaving a hotel and just finished putting our bags in the trunk. I tried to close the trunk as normal and would not close. It kept popping back open. After several attempts to close it "harder" I asked my wife, "Where are you keys?" to which she replied, "They're in the bag there, in the trunk." I removed the keys and the trunk closed as normal. Brilliant! The car, not me.

The physical key is also chipped and must be programmed to match fob & car. You cannot cut a key copy that would work. When the physical key is inserted into the ignition, there is a sensor that detects the chip in the key. Without the fob, or the fob battery dead, the 'Key not Detected' is to alert you that the car cannot 'read' a fob and the personal settings of the fob (Driver 1 and 2) cannot respond. Also, if the fob is not detected or powered you can lock it in the trunk as the proximity sensors (including the door handles) cannot 'read' a fob. The alert is a warning that these features will not operate as expected.
