Compatible Navigation Drives

Hey guys
after some testing im convinced I gotta send my unit to Alpine for $358 with a measly 3 month warranty. Being that I need an aux input so I can finally hook up the navtool I bought last year, I wanted to ask if using a 2008 navigation unit is a possibility. I call d and asked someone at Acura and they told me, they have different part numbers for 2005, 2006, and 2008 so they ARE NOT compatible. However I see these units posted all over eBay stating 2005-2008. So I gotta ask here. Has anyone upgraded navigation unit or are they interchangeable?

Please drop any info you can. I find it rediculos to send $358 to Alpine and only receive a 3 month warranty. I'd rather take my chances on a used one with a month warranty for half the price

I cant say for sure, but I would think they are interchangeable. That said, if you're installing NAVtool why bother replacing the drive? The OEM nav is garbage compared to Google Maps or even Waze. I say save that loot and put it towards something else. If you get a used one at a scrap yard or ebay then go for it.

I remember seeing that the 07-98 part numbers were different as well. Now, whether that translates to a different harness or not, I'm not 100% sure. I agree with Chocboy, if you can find a junkyard unit, go for it.

I agree 100%. I thought the drive had to be in working condition. Like maybe it used a portion of it's processor or video card. Only question now would be, where to find a plug in aux. I've heard about many of them but not sure which one will plug and play and which goes up front, to the xm radio, or to the dvd player.

Any suggestions, I'm ready to get that thing installed. It's literally been in my trunk jus sitting for over a year.

If you looking to add a OEM Aux port I would HIGHLY recomend SKIP it and get a USA Spec BT45-ACU. As far as the Navi unit goes you can put in the 06-08 model, the only thing differences is they revise so it can take wirring for OEM back up camera. Several member here with a 05 bought a unit from 06 model and add a OEM back up cam.

The BT45- ACU will connect to your XM unit, you will give up XM1 for BTA streaming function but if you have XM radio like me you can also use XM2 for all the preset.

To my surprise the unit came back on randomly last week and has been working perfectly ever since. Lol, I don't get it. I didn't do anything special. Drove to another state and magically it came back on one morning when I cut the car on. Anyone else experience this before?

Well originally I'm from California so it never gets cold. The Navi start working after I got down here in Montana where it's been below 30 like everyday. Do you think that played a factor?

yes and here why.

most likely it involve of contraction/ expansion within the solder joint in the navi drive. Cali average temp is around 70F-80F most of the time all year around compare to -30F on Montana that is a huge temperature difference.

if you send the unit out to Alpine most likely they gonna "reball" the circuit board. I don't like the "reflow" concept for a long term fix.
