check airbag
so now that I have a little dog (which is a whole nother story) riding in my car on occassion, the passenger air bag warning comes up on the navi screen.
It defaults to "Check Later". The other option is "Check Now" except that you cannot select "Check Now". What is it Checking Now or Later??

I could not find anything in the '05 manual that explains this, and I didn't bother checking the '07 manual. Would it be in the Nav booklet?

In the manual there are two messages discussed for the passenger:
If the "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator, next the emergency flashers, is lit then this would account for the seat detecting an object in the seat under 65 lbs. I think it may be Page 34 that discusses items that may cause a radom warning.
"Side Airbag off" warnings on the drivers instramentation panel or in the drivers multi-information display indicates a passenger is sitting (or possibily an object) is in the deployment path of the side air bag.

Here is a little blurb on Honda Airbags from the 2008 timeframe
http://corporate.honda.com/safety/de...aspx?id=airbag
2006 Owner manual excerpts which explains the dog shutting off the airbag.
The passenger’s advanced front
airbag system has weight sensors
under the seat. If the sensors detect
an infant or small child may be in the
seat, the system will automatically
turn the passenger’s front airbag off.
When the airbag is turned off, an
indicator in the center of the
dashboard will come on indicating
passenger airbag ‘‘OFF’’ (see page 35)
If there is no passenger in the front
seat, the airbag will be off. However,
the passenger airbag off indicator
will not come on.....
Here is more on the side airbag
To reduce the risk of injury from an
inflating side airbag, your vehicle has
an automatic cutoff system for the
passenger’s side airbag.
Although Acura does not encourage
children to ride in front, this system
is designed to shut off the side
airbag if a child leans into the side
airbag’s path.
The side airbag may also shut off if a
short adult leans sideways, or a
larger adult slouches and leans
sideways into the airbag’s
deployment path.
Objects placed on the front
passenger seat can also cause the
side airbag to be shut off.
If the side airbag off indicator comes
on (see page ), have the
passenger sit upright. Once the
passenger is out of the airbag’s
deployment path, the system will
turn the airbag back on, and the
indicator will go out.

What I don't understand is why the "Check Now" is not selectable. I thought it might have something to do with AcuraLink which I did not set-up.

That's what I was talking about. I got all the other warnings and lights, but the manual makes no mention of this "Check Now" "Check Later" message and why they have an "option" that isn't selectable.

Aha - I believe it is an Acuralink related message:

My check Airbag light for my 2005 Acura RL cames on...I notice that it is because of the driver's side seat belt buckle...
Take one can of computer-air...$10...empty the air into the buckle...and that clean out the dust and dirt that is the issue..my check Airbag light has not came on for over 2 week..hope this fixes it.

I have the same issue from time to time. It comes on when I unbuckle the seatbelt before shutting down the car. And sometimes it pops up when starting the engine. I turn off the car completely, put the seatbelt on and then start the engine and it goes away. I guess my buckle needs more than just blowing air.

Burning Brakes
So my check airbag light on the mid starting coming on periodically about two months ago, couldn't figure it out. Reading this thread, I realize now that it comes on intermittently only when I unbuckle and goes away when I restart the car. Wtf? How is the buckle related to the airbag? It also left a code on the navi showing 61-1 airbag system that I can't erase. I'm changing the battery this weekend so it will erase the code, but looks like I'm in need of a good blowing so it doesn't come back.

The seat buckle is part of the airbag system because in the case of an accident there is a charge in the B-pillar that goes off which instantly tightens the seat belt and locks the buckle in. This is why people get stuck in cars when bad accidents happen.
As long as the airbag light is on the airbag system will not go off if something bad happens.

Burning Brakes
Blowing it out didn't work for me. I find if I start the car with the seat belt buckled, it never comes on, or hasn't yet. It only comes on, and intermittently, when it's not buckled. Anyone have any suggestions? Replace the buckles maybe?

Burning Brakes
This 15 min editing rule should be changed. Just read the workshop manual a bit. My car is throwing 61-1 code, which in the manual says "open in driver's seat belt buckle switch." Guys on here are on the right track. Seems pretty straight forward to replace, assuming issue is at the buckle and not a wiring issue further down the line. Anyone ever replaced theirs?

Hello. Thanks for answering. Do not explain well the problem I have. Change the two front seats and after this the airbag light was turned on, before this was working perfectly. I have been reading in the forums that when you change the seats you need to calibrate the weight sensor. He was not aware of this problem. Some comment that changing the original seat weight sensor solves the problem. I have no experience in this type of car. If you could help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks
