Can't always turn start key

I'm not sure what the starter control is called on the side of the column since it isn't a key but....

sometimes when i get in my 07 RL with the remote in my pocket, I can't turn it. It's as if the car is not detecting the remote but it must be detecting it since it opens the door when I touch the outside door handle. After trying for a few minutes, it does turn with some force and I can start the car.

I am afraid that I will be left stranded somewhere and not be able to start the car. Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you sure it is not a matter of turning the steering wheel slighty to relieve pressure on the lock?

Yes perhaps the wheel lock is engaged? Do you park with the wheels turned?

Also, do you fully twist the knob before it 'reads' the transmitter signal? Try this test: Turn the knob just slightly (1st click). This should engage the telescope wheel mechanism. Once it has done that, turn the knob further for ignition.

But still it should not be hanging you up if it does this everytime. I'd get your Service Advisor to look at it.

Can't say I ever had the problem. A similar problem is getting in the ccar and turning the starter before I am fully seated in the car, and it will not turn. But I turn it again, immediately afterwards and it starts up automatically.

I am kind of spoiled by this because other cars I try to start do not always start with the briefest twist of the key, I have to start them again.

When we got our RL, key1 worked without any flaws. Key 2 would unlock the door but not let you start the car at all. You could not force it or anything. Went to Acura for service A1 and told them about it. Ended up being a bad remote replaced under warranty...

I've found that it matters where I carry the remote. If it's in my left pants pocket away from the steering column and behind my leg sometimes the key won't turn. If i just move the remote a little closer to the column by just shift my leg or putting the remote closer, no problem.

Try getting the remote closer to the starter switch.

The auto-start-up is very nice. You don't have to "listen" to the starter like in the past. You just "flick" the switch and it starts-up automatically. Newer cars are beginning to have starters like this.

I would be willing to bet this is a steering lock issue as stated in the 2nd post. Does the steeing column quiver slightly when you attempt to turn the key? Try pulling the steering wheel in what ever direction it will go and then turn the key.

I agree. In my case its always been the steering wheel lock, I consistently forget to turn the steering wheel slightly before cranking.

Have had the same issue - it's a matter of slightly turning the steering wheel when cranking the engine.

Thanks for all the replies. It has not happened since I posted my message but turning the wheel will be my first option when it happens again.

Due to this thread, I studied the "problem" a bit more. My starter does not turn while the steering wheel is rotating down and extending out. Once that memory cycle is over, the key turns. So it is not because I am not fully seated, it is because the driver position memory is still getting things to where they are supposed to be.
