I have morimoto HID fog lights and within the past couple months they were replaced under warranty, i've never had any real issues with them but today I noticed they were not working no lighting up no spark nothing.. first thing I thought it was its gotta be a fuse.. sure it enough it was, went to autozone bought a couple 20 and 25 and 30 amp fuses and replaced the broken fuse with its matching amp and hit the fog light switch.. nothing.. I checked back on the fuse it blew too.. i ended up trying all the fuses and they all blew.

When I got home i checked all the wiring to these HID fogs and everything seems fine

the ONLY wire I did not check was the ground wire could this be the cause? I didn't check the wire but is it possible it is no longer grounded causing fuses to blow?

 

Are your connections well sealed? It's possible water got into one of the pigtails and it's causing a short circuit

 

From what I see everything is fine

I'm currently outside my home with my bumper off trying to diagnose and so far I see nothing it's driving me nuts

 

Did you use the Morimoto relay as well?

 

You need an ohmmeter/multimeter/short detector. Something is making contact somewhere that shouldn't be. Could be an exposed wire, harness, or even a defect inside the ballast.

BTW, upping the fuse rating is a dangerous way to troubleshoot with almost no benefit. You can easily melt the insulation on those wires at that amperage.

 

I am so stumped and so annoyed

I am completely stumped and I checked every fuse under the hood.

I am going to have too bring this by to my installer to further diagnose because I cant find an issue my only conclusion is something is touching a piece of metal causing the fuse to blow or like 007 said a defect in the ballast but it has worked perfectly fine since december when I first had this new warranty replacement kit

There is a clip that is OEM that sits on the lower portion of the bumper that is gray that maybe is causing the issue but I dont know.


Something has to be exposed or touching a piece of metal I did not see but i looked on both sides and the wires are pretty self explanatory and I saw nothing rubbing

I couldn't find the relay in my car the installer I have has it hidden maybe thats what needs replacing? How would a defective relay affect the fuse box and it blowing fuses?

I'm guessing not...

The easiest way to see if it's the HID kit or a short in the car would be the unplug the HID kit and plug the stock bulb back in. If the issue goes away, it's the HID kit.
