break in period

I know with my TSX and TL the break in period was 600 miles. I would go look at the manual, but I am 45 miles away from the car.. What would the break-in period be on the car? My dealer (which I am not so sure this is true - hence me asking) said redline it as much as possible during the first 600 miles. Arn't you supposed to take it easy the first 600 miles with no hard acceleration?

You've got to be kidding me It will be interesting to see what actual owners come back with, but if Acura wants folks to redline their new RLs I think I'll go with the M35 Amazing line of BS. I'd try to get that in writing.

I'd recommend no hard acceleration, no hard braking, and no redlining for at least 500 to 600 miles. Also it is recommended that you vary the rpms (i.e. do not cruise at a constant speed for long periods of time.

That is what I thought, lol. All the new cars have had the same break-in suggestions, I figured acura wouldn't change it for the RL. When I get home I will read the manual, but I assume it is as you said.

Think they give a time of 800-1000 miles.

I personally dont go by the break-in period. I mean I dont drive super hard during it but I dont make sure I am driving the exact way they recommend meaning if a situation comes up where I have to drive hard I will rather than worry about the break-in period. Guess I don't own the cars long enough for it to really be an issue. My last car was a 2001 IS300 which was bought the week it came out and I drove that thing pretty aggressive from the get go and it never had one problem in the 4.5 years I drove it.

I would say the Acura salesman seems to be giving a little odd info based on what I have read about break-in periods. I was always under the imrpession the key is to drive at diff speeds and not to do constant jack rabbit type starts or emergency stops.

I am pretty sure the Owners Manual said the break-in is 600 miles, but the manual is in the car and I am at work.

Maybe they are referring to an "Italian tuneup", but that is usually only for older cars that have gummy valves and/or are not driven very hard or often.
