Bi-Xenon Project for 2nd Gen RL

Hi.

In Europe, it's very easy to find Bi-Xenon projectors removed from a damaged Audi, BMW, Benz or else.

The set prices are about 100$

So, I need some asistant from experienced guys.

Here are my questions (=
1- How does AFS work? Is the system on the projector's itself? If not, how do projectors turns?
(Last month I had replaced my HID bulbs and I was able to turn the projectors to achieve an easy angle for installing. So, I think there is nothing with the projectors. Their foundations turn. Am I wrong?)

2-(If #1 question is clear)
Here are two types of projectors. Which ones may fit to our RLs?

BOSCH:

HELLA:

3- It looks like projectors can be removed from backside without opening up.
Right?

Thank you for your patience...

Have a perfect week!

AFS system beside the usual sensors through out the car uses an actuator (to adjust height of the aim) and a motor (to turn the projector). Height actuator is located outside the headlight and can be taken off if service needs to be done or if it needs to be changed. AFS motor is below each projector and can be accessed by opening the service cap underneath each headlight.

The OEM projectors can be taken out once you have headlights opened. But as you'd notice once the projectors are out that each projector has pertruding mounting points. One towards the bottom that goes into the AFS motor and one towards the top that sits in a mount with a bearing inside it.

You can replace the OEM projector but it would mean you'd loose the AFS function, unless you can find a projector small enough to fit in the same opening that the OEM projector sits in along with fabricating custom mounts to fit in the same holes that the OEM projectors fit in.

Option 2 would be to install small bi-xenon projectors in the DRL reflector. This would be the easiest option. You'd loose drl and factory halogen hi beam but you'd gain another set of low beam projectors along with the factor ones. Along with the HID high beam.

Option 3 would be to convert OEM projectors into bi-xenon ones by installing small actuators behind each cut off shields that would lower the shield once the high beam is turned on. This option would require extensive research, fabrication of mounts for the cut off shield that let it flap down yet at the same time make sure that it returns to its original position when hi beam is turned off.

Check HIDplanet.com for more info as many others have converted projectors such as RX330, LS460, LS430 etc into bi-xenon projectors.

Good luck.

Why not just retrofit the bi-xenon into the high beam spot, a la Carbon Legend?

@Jnc

Thank you for your kind interest and long message.
I don't want to carry out any "open, cut, drill etc." work on them.
If you are sure that the projector cannot be removed without opening up the lens, I will keep original system. There are only 14 KB1 Honda Legends in Turkey and if I damage or break anything, I will need to wait for months.
Even brake pads are not in stock in Honda dealers.

@oo7spy

Please read above.

He is correct there is no way to remove the projector assembly without removing the plastic headlight lens cover.

I found this video and I'm confused.
It looks like projectors can be removed from behind?

Am I wrong?

Eu or US specs are different?

Ahaha...

I have just realized this video is yours.

Actually, I should not thank.
You should share this video to this tread before me.

Thank you, pal.

So I'm right, huh?

I can remove projectors easily from behind, right?

Take care...

No you cannot remove the projector from behind. the projector must be removed from the front. There is a tab that sticks out about 1" below the projector and there is a slot on the front of the internal mount to allow the projector to slide out the front. you also have to remove the top AFS bearing mount in order to remove it as well. You have to open the headlights.

It's not so complicated as you think. I did retrofit 2 cars - it's simple.
One more thing: if you would like to change low beam - you can use bi modul from Honda FRV with AFS . Some pictures of our module http://www.hidplanet.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1423
But I think to change high beam - is more simply. And look will be better.
