LOL!
If that were the case, how many accounts would On-Star lose out on?
I dont think they would be foolish to abandon all there analog accounts while making the transition to digital. You will see both for at least 5 years.

I saw this news in Summer of 2003. They have warned car owners and makers to pay attention to this issue for years. It's probably the task they "have to" do.

However, I guess 05RL already has the newest device, owners should not be worrying about it. ??? There is no way to equip old system into 05 models.

OnStar says: All OnStar-equipped vehicles have one of three types of equipment, based on wireless network technologies:
  • Analog-only: Available on most 2003 model-year and earlier vehicles.

  • Analog/Digital-Ready: Available on select 2003 and 2004 model-year GM vehicles, which have been prepared for conversion to analog/digital (dual-mode) equipment when it is offered

  • Analog/Digital (Dual Mode): Available on select 2004 and future OnStar-equipped GM vehicles

GM will never go bankrupt i think, but i do think they'll sell/kill off a number of units in the next few years. I think the same can probably be said for Ford.

I was told by Acura that the OnStar system in the RL is already compatible with the digital system.

GM cars don't last long enough to make it to 2007, thus most won't have an issue since they converted to dual mode in 2004 :-)

According to my buddie at On Star, the RL has the dual mode as noted above.
