bang under driver's heel
this has happened twice. Recently it happened again - the 2006 was just in for the brake fix.
Sometimes in the morning when we get in the car there will be a metallic clang in the engine area. I figure it is just the parking pawl setting if it was not all the way in. One time it was a little different. That little different happened again today. We were pulling in the garage and the car was in gear. The exact second I lifted my foot from the gas and my heel touched the floor under the pedal, just as my foot was touching the brake pedal there was a loud clang, snap what ever one can call it from under the floor near my heel. It could be sound that just felt that way as Cathy who also heard it though it came from the engine area outside the car. The sound was like - say you welded two pieces of steel together and a small spot weld snapped when you were prying on them. I wondered if there was a plate or something under the drivers feet area where maybe it was settling in after being removed etc. Anyway the sound could also be something shifting but it was slightly metallic and sharp, not hollow like plastic etc. Has anyone else had this or any idea? We were almost stopped as my foot was almost off the throttle and then as my heel moved to brake is when it occured. Sounded like something broke but the car drives fine.

that is what the dealer suspects. They have it today. It also has a click/pop in the gas pedal. If you turn the car off and then push the pedal all the way to the floor, it will pop and click as it is released. You can feel it as well as hear it. Sometimes it is louder sometimes softer. Dealer can't find the cause of that either although they can reproduce it. It is happening on all the 2006 they have on the lot so it sounds more like design than a failure. If you have a 2006, with the car off push the pedal to the floor firmly and let up. See if it pops and vibrates as you release it.
I don't think it was the gas pedal that day though because we were at idle - although my pedal has clicked at other places than all the way down sometimes.
