Hi, I have a 2006 RL. The B16 is showing. I've read this is basically an oil change.

At what mileage intervals does that indicator turn on/display? 3500 miles or what?

I usually change my oil in previous Acuras around 5K miles. thx.

btw, does the SH-AWD really handle better than "normal" cars? It doesn't seem any better handling than my 2000 TL (but maybe it's better in the rain?) And it doesn't seem to out-accelerate my old TL either. Otherwise, a very nice car.

 

B16 is more than just a basic oil change. Letter "A" is just the oil change, "B" is a long list of components they inspect; see page 357. "1" = rotate tires, and "6" is change the differential fluid.

The display will activate when the remaining oil life is 15 to 6% with "Service Due Soon".

The SHAWD excels in cornering and driving in snow much better than "normal cars" in my opinion.

B16 Maintenance Main Items:

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment

Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle
speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of
mechanical (shear) stress to fluid This requires
differential fluid changes more frequently than
recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you

have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles
(12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).



If the message ‘‘SERVICE DUE NOW’’ does not appear more than 12 months
after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year.

Display, replace the brake fluid every 3 years.

what about in the Glendale, CA 91208 area? I took my 2000 Acura TL to Jason's Honda/Acura specialty and leary of taking my RL there (I spent $1K and got a new alternator - the battery was overcharging @ 18.8V - and drove away with 3 non-functional windows and non-functional stereo).

Dealers are expensive.

But how is that 15% or 6%, for example, calculated or based upon? Surely the computer does not know how dirty the engine oil is. Total miles to 5000 miles, for example? usually the stickers they put on the windshield are "set to expire" in 3500 miles, no?

It's almost 1000 miles over...

So basically, it's based on acumulated miles, engine temps, time.....etc.

 

The B16 just displayed on my car a few weeks ago. With regard to the inspections,my dealer performs a "courtesy inspection" of most of the items listed above everytime I take the car in for service, regardless of whether it's called for. They then give you a sheet highlighting the condition of the inspected items. As a result I just ask for the "real work" to be performed. In this case the oil/filter change, tire rotation and diff oil change.

Much cheaper.
