B16 Price

Hey guys/gals, sorry I'm kind of in a hurry so I don't have much time to do a search at the moment. I just wanted to know a good price of a B16 service on an '08 RL in NY or LI? Thanks in advance.
The dealer said $190 of the top of his head but that sounds high.

Considering they change the rear diff fluid, that actually seems a little low to me...

This is a list copied from a post Tampa did a while back:

B16 Maintenance Main Items:

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Visually inspect these items:
Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Suspension components
Driveshaft boots
Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
All fluid levels and condition of fluids
Exhaust system
Fuel lines and connections
AB
Symbol
1 - Rotate Tires

Symbol
6 - Replace rear differential fluid
Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle
speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of
mechanical (shear) stress to fluid This requires
differential fluid changes more frequently than
recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you
regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions,
have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles
(12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).

If you ask me, that's a lot of shit for $190. Most of it is just inspecting this and that but I think the oil and rear diff fluid change are well worth the money. I change my own oil but I'm not screwing around with the rear diff. I've heard too many horror stories to put that liability in my own hands.

Changing rear diff is just as easy as changing the oil. All you need is a fluid pump, $10 at any auto parts store, and 3/8" ratchet. Takes me less than 30 mins.

It's 4 qts of fluid @ $8 a qt. figure $20 for a DIY oil change and you are at about $50 in parts for b16. Still think 190 is good?

As Bdogg said, most of that is visual inspection. IIRC, Acura charges an hour labor for the rear diff, so 100-110$, and however much they charge for an oil change, plus an hour labor charge for the "inspection". 190$ actually seems pretty resonable for a dealer, maybe a little cheap actually.

EDIT: Plus fluids on the rear diff @ 8$ a quart...

B16 Servcie

Had this done at a local STS (Somerst Tire Service), they had to go to the Acura dealer to pick up the differential fluid. Even with that the total for oil change, tire rotation, and rear diff. fluid flush and change was only $117.

I have had a previous MDX transmission go so would not recommend taking chances with the AWD drive train maintenance, not the most robust system out there.

It's a good price, we pay more than $200 here in MA unless you go to Honda Dealer that does as good job as Acura but charge much less.

when I went in for the B16 service, the dealer I go to said that I didn't need it and just did the A service instead; which saved me money in the process..
Now it's time for an A service and sometimes my tranny jerks when I shift it from P to D or R and from R to D or vice versa.

Was this bc they didn't change the rear diff, is the tranny fluid low, or might it be something else? thanks again in advance fellas..

That is most likely your engine and tranny mounts. Have those checked.

Thanks for answering all my questions Nersh

One more quick question; would it be covered under my AcuraCare warranty?

Engine and trans mounts are listed as covered. Carburetors are covered too. Did Acuras ever have carbs?

What is not covered by Acura Care & what is covered.
