Anyone heard this one...

Leaving work today I travel about one mile. I stop at a light, and when taking off I hear what sounds like an exhaust leak. I hear it each time I touch the gas pedal. It lasts for about 10 seconds then I don't hear it again for the rest of my 40 mile trip.

Anyone have this happen before? Any ideas?

does it happen only just below 2k rpms? i've had this recently, but i almost wonder if it's just in my head... almost sounds like the ANC (noise cancellation) fails for some reason in that range... not sure. seemed to me that it started after I had my hail damage fixed... wondering if the rear mic got dislodged or something.

What does an exhaust leak sound like? The ANC is disabled with the driver door open. That can help debug that theory.

so you heard a noise at the stop light? LoL

was the radio on?
were there other cars?
had you taken any drugs?
do you actually have a leak?
do you often day dream of exhaust sounds?

Hey, that was helpful.

No, no drugs and it was definately coming from my car, unless it coincidently occured each time I hit the gas for the next mile with no other cars around. It did not happen this morning when I left so maybe it was just a one time issue.

Hearing the sound would help. But get it on a lift and listen to where it is coming from.

Years ago on another car I had to replace an exhaust gasket because it made an "exhaust leak" sound. The noise would go away after I put my foot on the pedal because the air flowed through the exhaust faster.

Was it right after you started the car? All of my old Acuras and this one have a weird idle which sounds like a leak for the first minute or two. I think I read somewhere that it's to reduce emissions when the car is warming up. It goes away in a minute or so.
