Any ideas for a non oem trunk tray
I was thinking of just covering the middle section of the trunk, the part that covers the spare. That way I can keep my cargo net hooked on the built in trunk clips.
Any ideas?

Get the largest automotive floor mat(s) you can find at Wal-Mart and cut it to fit.
You could also purchase one of those mats that goes under a wheeled office chair and cut it to fit (but you'll need a set of super-shears).
None of these would have a lip to contain possible spills, though.

Looking at the typical auto accessories custom fit selection:
http://www.autoanything.com/cargo-liners/10A50182.aspx
I would go with the OEM trunk liner which has a lip as well as cut outs for the cargo net for nominally $80.
hondacuraworld has them for $78.00 + 3.95 Handling + free shipping, so $82. I have used them before for a lot of things. You should search around, maybe there are ebay deals, but the Acura OEM mat is nice, and a lot nicer than Honda OEM mats, thicker.

yea i guess ill take a stroll around the auto parts store, but oem trunk tray is prob the best. also i am using my net from the tl, so i just kind of clipped it to the trunk hooks. I think there is another net for the rl.

the OEM tray has cutouts for those clips in the floor of the trunk. go OEM. it fits perfect and looks like it belongs in there. on a classy car like the RL, it would be a shame to put some ghetto/cheapo trunk liner in their, when you can get an OEM perfect fitting tray for $80.

About three months ago, the guy at the grocery store, loaded groceries in my trunk, and I loaded some into the back seat (I had two carts and he helped me).
He put a bag with milk, ricotta cheese and other dairy products in front of some things I was going to bring to work on Mon am (this was on a Sat afternoon), so I left that crap in my car over the weekend, not knowing about the milk and stuff. Kinda wondered about the odd smell Mon am.
Milk exploded from heat in the bag along with the other items. LUCKLY I had the OEM tray. Threw out the bag and simple greened the tray and let it sit out in the sun for a few hrs.
Actually had to rinse and dry a few times but it ended up clean and smell free.
I NEVER thought that would happen to me. Never.
Summary: Load your own groceries and make sure you get everything out of the trunk. Also MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE OF THE OEM TRAYS! ! ! !! ! I can almost guarantee you will have some kind of accident eventually. If I hadnt had one and that $hit went into the carpet, It would still be stinking!
Fits like a glove too. Small price to pay for a lot of protection.

I went to Home Depot to the flooring dept. There I found on a roll a thick rubber mat material, the kind that you would put in a kitchen maybe by the sink to stand on. It was the perfect gray color and I cut it to cover the removable part of the trunk floor. Works fine. Will not catch spilled milk, but will prevent soiling of the truck carpeting and I can use my net.

The beauty of the OEM tray is that it is a molded part. Therefore, you have tooling costs and no way can you ever DIY one (without the mold) that will even come close to the perfect fit the Acura tray has. The tray has side walls, openings and mimics the perimeter of the trunk...It can't be beat unless you have a mold and use better quality materials and add a carpet insert.
Hey that's a great idea! Carpet insert for the tray floor. Cheap inexpensive mod in my future. Thanks for the thread...Had not thought about this until now.
