Alternator Dead, But so is the Multi-Display Screen?

Hi folks,

While driving, my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. First it was the charging system error, then the SH-AWD, and then the airbags (and so on and so forth). Based on my experience and with some looking around in the forum, I'm replacing the alternator. What's weird, however, is that when I have the battery connected to another car, I can get most systems powered up with the exception on the Nav/Radio and the multi-display screen with the exception that it says "welcome" when I turn the key. I'd like to pull the mileage off the odometer, but don't seem to be able to get there. Am I on a hunt for blown fuses or am I looking at something more significant?

Thanks!

Possible dead or shorted cell in battery .... or bad cable/connection maybe ?
Try using another battery known to be good & see what happens.

4strokes, you win the medal! I put a new alternator and battery in yesterday and that fixed the problem! I was all freaked out that the tow truck driver fried something else in the electrical system when he copiously tried to jump start it. Now, I have all the information needed to go get my loaner from Acura (while I wait for the airbags to be repaired).

One question before I'm done with this thread...I looked for a DIY on this forum for the alternator replacement and didn't really find one. Does anyone thinks it's worthwhile to document my process even though it's not an overly complicated job? I figure it might be a nice way to give back to this community if sharing my experience would be helpful...

To be polite though, yes, that would be greatly appreciated. While I'm sure a J35 alternator replacement exists, it's always nice having a vehicle specific walk through.

Yea because moving all the fans and AC lines is tricky... its not on top like the four cylinders... you could also post the alt you bought.

I went with the Denso.

The a/c line in the RL makes it a bit different to change than other j series motors, and the fan is not required to be removed
