AcuraZine, Please Help, Seeing Red

Hi Guys,

Today replaced my headlight/DRL,Fog light bulbs and installed a Cosmo Racing Cold Air Intake.
After I removed the battery, air filter box and resonator box and I noticed this pipe/metal pipe type thing sticking out of what look to be the transmission. For the life of me I dont recall unhooking anything from that spot. Did I knock something off by accident? Can someone please tell me what it is, what it goes to. I have included a few pics. I plan on posting a video and some pics on the CAI installed.

The reason Im so angry is I brought the same exact pictures to Fresno Acura the same place I bought the car 8 years ago and they couldnt tell me what it was................WTF??? Typical dealer, just sales and $ervice, no actual help!

Definitely looks like something went there. In acura defense they probably didnt see many RL's to really know what missing.

Im just seeing this and not home where car is to verify, hopefully someone else is that can respond and advise.

I'll take a look when I get back to the RL later today but if there was a hose there you would have "knocked" it off both ends which is hard to believe.

Is the car running fine? May just be a ventilation tube..

Take a look at the factory parts you took off. Is there a hose or tube that goes to the stock air filter box. Your answer may be in the parts you removed to install the intake.

I looked all over the airbox and resonator and found nothing, nows the car is overheating, please help

in this picture at the bottom right hand corner, it looks like a little bit of coolant spilled. thus how I came up with my assumption of a coolant line...



now, you say it's over heating...
really not sure what that tube is for, as I dont have an RL and my TL is a 6MT..

I looked at my RL and it is hard to see with the factory air box in place. I have seen coolant lines run to the throttle body housing before and this might be one of them since it appears that to be the case in my car. Just to be clear, your car is an RL?

Why would you install a CAI when the factory box is a tuned CAI. At most, I would have considered installing a K&N in the factory box and also looking for any restrictions in the factory box. Many times the factory will put a cone-like noise restrictor in the box. I have seen and removed same in many BMW's and a Ranger I previously owned. If you now have a cone filter under the hood, you are just increasing intake noise and unless it is dammed off, it is drawing in warmer air from under the hood versus the cold air from the wheel well. Just my .02.

i also think it's supposed to connect to the throttle body. but the purpose of it is supposed to "warm up" the throttle body incase of ice keeping the plate stuck or frozen...so, I dont think that can cause the car to over heat, unless you are losing coolant and or is allowing air into the coolant lines

I would buy a little tiny cap from autozone...vaccuum hose caps. they are usually red or yellow to cap it off temporary

Just checked out the RL & it's capped.

Chances are it's kicking around somewhere in the engine bay.

Hollywood, I NOW agree with you. Im not really feeling it.Cons - Loss in low end, worse MPG, almost too much air sucking noise. Pros - After 4,000rpms has a better punch, has little growl.

Tech CL, Thank you so much. Im headed to buy a cap first thing in the morning when it cools off. Fresno like 96/97 degrees today. Im sure this will solve my overheating problem.

So for chits and giggles I went and bought a cap when the sun when down, capped the tube, and nada. Car still overheats. I can smell antifreeze....soo I must have ruptured and hose during the install OR it has something to do with the O2 sensor I had replaced today. Bank 2 sensor 1....any thoughts?

that's just a vacuum port and wasnt intended TO STOP your overheating issues.
we're solving one problem at a time here. and we just solved your initial issue...but that wasnt the more important pressing issue.

you're going to have to find a leak. is the coolant in the reservoir at the full mark?
and hopefully you arent running the engine with the temp gauged pegged at HOT.( just throwing it out there)

Yea the cap or o2 sensor aren't associated at all with the car overheating..

Correct again, cracked radiator, $500 later fixed. Still not a big fan of the CAI, but not going to attempt to reinstall the resonator box, so I have to learn to live with it. Does anyone know if there anything I can do to help the CAI perform better? Thanks again for everyones help.
