Acura on Speed
#3
The past couple years, Acura has done fairly well in the Le Mans P2 class. But for 2009 they want to step up to the P1 class. Now in that class, Audi and Peugeot dominate with their diesel powered engines. Since Acura is all about highly efficient, light weight non-diesel engines they had to come up with something different. What they came up with was making the front tires the same size as the rears. This would let them get more grip and power on to the track. Having bigger tires in the front creates air flow problems which Acura designed a car to compensate for. Almost all the earlier development was done on computer programs and computer simulations. After months and months of computer sims, they finally built the car, and in its testing the car is showing very promising results. Keep in mind that the Acura groups have only had 8 months to do all this. So we'll just have to see how well Acura can keep up in this years LMP1 series.
