Headlight Sensor

Update. The Toyota sensor corrected the problem for 3 weeks and 500 mi. Then I started getting the error again. So I ended up installing the 2.2k resistors in the old part. So far so good.

I ordered the Amazon one and it should be arriving next week. I hope the install will go smoothly and get rid of that blinking light! Crazy how Acura quoted me $600 to replace it.

My fix worked for about 3wks/500 mi and then I got the error msg again. So I did the resistor fix to the old part. Let me know how the Toyota part works for you. bmwjackson@gmail.com

I got the part today. There is no How To/DIY for the install and I consider myself a noob. I pulled the wheel and noticed there was a lot of mud and rust.

The actual lowering arm is quite rusted. Is this something I should replace? Or will cleaning it off with WD-40 be enough?

The 10mm nut loosened the arm but just spins and spins so I assume it does not come off and the sensor will drop out from the back once I detach the plug (which is caked in mud) and remove the screw? The plug is really on there. I started with the arm but it just spun and spun and then I could not detach the plug but she's been attached for 18 years. I did not want to ruin the connectors.

Tomorrow is a new day but frustrating as I thought that this would be a quick swap.

The shaft has two flats that fit into flats in the arm. The arm can stop the shaft from turning. Also the shaft shouldn't just turn because internally the little device can't rotate a full circle. Good luck.

I took another crack at it. Unfortunately it appears as though I’ll need the entire component as mine is severely rusted. The main arm started to crumble as I loosened the bolts. The whole assembly goes for $150 on eBay which is crazy. Going to check local yards. Hate how this is becoming a major project. I also discovered a major rodents nest in back of the wheel well liner. Sprayed the hose up inside it and a ton of leaves and acorns came out.

AFS light is a sensor behind the driver’s rear wheel is Call a self leveling sensor I think it’s sold on eBay for about $2o to 30. I had the same problem. Solve my issue with a new sensor.

The welded bracket is in rough shape. Is it even worth it at this point? I still cannot get the actual module disconnected. So much rust.

is there a truck to get the bolt off from the strut mount? It just spins and spins.

I have a new sensor but the mount and lowering arm which it goes into is way beyond its service date.

Nasty corrosion. You only need to get the one nut off of the sensor. The arms can stay where they are.

I figured it was best to just tear it all out and install a better one from a junk yard or eBay. You think the arms are still usable even with all the corrosion?

Still worth a shot to put in the new sensor?

Sensor is caked in mud and rust. The nut holding it in is loose bit will not budge. 3 screws as well appear to hold it in but I cannot get the third and it’s stripped. Tomorrow is a new day I guess.

Anyone have a part number on the connector? One of the pins turned to dust. Can't find the connector anywhere.

Bought the Toyota replacement part for $40 and it didn't work. Then bought a salvaged Acura part off eBay for $125 and installed yesterday......works great, for now!!
