Ac

Don't think that this can happen many places in the country, but it shows the problems with the AC auto temp control. I live in SF Bay Area and went to the "Delta" over the weekend. For those of you not from the area, the Delta is the Sacramento River Delta area about 50 miles east of SF. Its a boating paradise and very hot in the summer. In that 50 miles, there is a huge temperature difference which the AC auto control does not handle well.

So, I'm at the Delta and get in the RL to drive back home. Outside temp shows 105 and I set inside temp to 70. After car cools down, I have to up temp to 75 or everyone gets freezed out. As I drive west towards the Bay Area (on I580), the temp gradually decreases. As I get close to Hayward, the temp is now mid 80s, and I need to adjust the auto setting to 73 or it does not keep the car cool enough. Then further west, I am on San Mateo bridge (middle of the SF Bay) and outside temp is 70 and I have to adjust auto temp down to 69 or it blows super hot air into the car. I get off bridge and keep going west a bit, then south on 101 on the Peninsula. Outside temp is 79 and I have to raise auto temp back up to 72.

To me this shows that the AC control takes too much account of the outside temp rather than what is going on in the car. I have to do similar things everyday driving to work in morning versus home at night. That is, in the morning when temp is low 60s, I have to set temp at 69, but when driving home and temp is mid 80s, I have to raise auto setting to 73/74.

To me its not that big a deal, but it is annoying. They made such a big deal about the temp control taking into account the Sun on the car and so forth, but it doesn't work!

I agree with you, the automatic sun sensor does not work as advertised. Great gimmick though.

Weird. I think if the temp outside is warmer than the temp in the car then it shouldnt need to be adjusted like that. If one sets it to 73 then it should stay at 73 regardless if outside is 80 or 3 million

Rob - it should work the way you suggest, but it does not.

Were you by chance in Antioch (Delta)? I live out here and can tell you how warmer it is here!
We love our warm summer nights too!
