2010 RL SH-AWD Questions

Hey guys, Dad just bought a 2010 RL with 71k on the odometer. This is his third Legend/RL, he had an 87 Legend sedan and a 93 Legend sedan. I still own the 93 he handed down to me and am currently also looking to get a newer Acura to give mine some rest.

So for his car just two questions, and I have searched around and not found anything specific, if I did miss something I apologize.

First, is there a known issue with this particular year in SH-AWD that has tranny problems? Car has had the transmission replaced and previous owner had it in the shop three times prior to my Dad buying it. He bought it from a Lexus dealership that says everything checked out and the lady who owned it just didn't like the car so she kept bringing it to the shop. I didn't find anything saying the tranny were issues, just wanted to see if anyone knew different?

Also the slot on the driver's side door panel, not sure what to call it, both front driver's doors have one. It's the pocket/slot that on the passenger side can be pulled out to access it. The driver's side one does not. It almost seems like it's been glued shut. I found a thread that said someone had one that fell off I believe. Maybe that happened and someone just glued it back on? Any idea on a fix, or would he need to replace the whole part?

Thanks a lot guys.

In my years of owning RL (06) I have not seen or heard any standardized and reported on issues with transmissions (05-12)...
It is, however, possible that the owner has had issues with this particular car, who knows how it was driven... could have been a bad apple ...

Interesting. I've heard of one case of RL transmissions needing replacing. Unusual but not impossible I guess.

if any thing I am willing to bet people let the Z1 fluid sit for a long time and cause the torque converter to be shutter under speed, the standard norm is to replace the transmission as well.

Transmission issues are far from normal for these cars. My 06' with 190k+ miles is going strong & never skips a beat (*knocks on wood*).

More than anything has to do with prior maintenance/driving habits or just bad luck..

Thanks gents for confirming this. I picked up a 2010 RL a couple weeks ago and was worried about only 2 things: the 3.7L would burn oil, and the transmission was the same unit from my 2006 TL. So thankful for you 3 guys for helping me see I was wrong about worrying for either one of those issues! 6-spd sounds nice, but not a trade-off for the 2011 3.7L!

btw..I just received the California court notice in the mail a couple days ago regarding the oil consumption lawsuit. Funny timing...as it's for the 2011 MDX I owned previously.

Late reply, but thanks to all for the replies.

He ended up calling some of the shops who looked at it before and two of them recommended the tranny get replaced. It was clunking on him for two days straight and since it was an AutoNation dealer they had to return it. Now they hate it for it, but it clearly had a tranny issue that was overlooked.

Today we both bought new (to us) cars. I bought an 08 TL Type S and he was about to pull the trigger on an RLX, but ended up saving 5k and went with a 13 Genesis. I'm not thrilled with that, but fine.

Thanks again guys, appreciate it. Helped me out but I was locked out of my account and didn't thank you all sooner.
