I hear you! I did not top off at the end of last summer and just put in 200 gallons to make it to half full. I think I'll be doing more "slip sailing" this summer.

Yep...2 weeks ago. I loved the car, but I simply could not fit it. The steering wheel was planted in my thighs....soon my feet got tingly.

I somewhat knew that when I bought it, but I got such a good deal from an estate sale. I actually made $$$ on it! (awaiting PMs from various sales rep members ).

And just an update....the guy who bought it from me just wrecked it. He decided to use the passenger side flank to stop it from rotating with the aid of a Southern Live Oak. It's toast.

But my RL is already drooling at the thought of this NSX alongside in the garage.

Yes I work for a dealer. Yes I work in sales.

I know that the 09 911 will have a direct injection engine and the availability of a PDK transmission with launch control.

I can tell you I'm attending the 09 Porsche 911 launch in PA in August.

I can't tell you when the 09 RL will be at the Acura dealers. I'm not a psychic.

If you want to buy an Acura, I'm not the droid your looking for .

Thumbs up

Good one!

For whatever it's worth, when the 09 RL was formally introduced at the Chicago show this winter and the details of its features and changes itemized on the official Honda site (hondanews) that same day, NOBODY at the dealerships I called within a day or two of the announcement being made to the public knew any of it. So the concept that acura sales guys are given any info in advance of the public getting it is sometimes very incorrect.

Ok R2.

Tampa...At least you fit somewhat...I had two deposits on S2ks when they first came out, just so whoever got one first would get my business, unfortunately my 6'8" frame just didn't fit. That was a bad day, for both me and the Sales droid.

PS. If this is the true rendering of the NSX, I am glad I sold the S2000 already. THIS car would make a nice stablemate to my RL!

I think the reports are refering to the next RL, the one in the recent spy shots, not our current car.

I thought that myself, however the timing of the two vehicle launches would make this statement backwards.

Since the NSX launches 1st, it would be the originator of the new aluminum structure and then followed by the next gen RL. The NSX looks nearly finished, where the RL mule is further behind. If this statement said something like 'and will be shared with the RL saloon', but it was present tense.

It would do the RL good if they marketed with refrences to sharing structure components with the NSX!

I posted a comment over in Automotive News on this subject. I agree, the NSX seems close to complete. Talking to the SM over at my dealer the other day, he said he was told to expect it January '10. That makes sense. I believe he's probably got good info. He heard nothing about price. That makes me believe most of this talk about price is pure speculation.

I'm also with you Tampa on getting one. If that NSX looks as good as I think it will, sounds like that, and can come in even a bit south of $100k, I will definitely get one. I haven't had my mid life crisis yet. I'm still holding that chip ready to cash it in with my wife. This could be it

The new NSX (won't be called that) WILL be a super car, Honda wants to show they can build another world class car. The new one may replace my current NSX, under $100k is probably wishful thinking, no 10 cylinder is near that except the Viper. The Turbo Porsche is way over $100k and it is one of the target cars.

$150k+ would put it out of the price range of almost everyone with the exception of the very wealthy (or total gear head willing to sacrafice eating for the car). Good halo car but not something realistic for most to consider owning at those prices. I hope they come out with a v8 derivative that more regular folks can own.

We just got our first 2 09 RL's about 10 minutes ago. Like I've said for a few months now, still LOVE the car in person!

A common problem in the S. It's tough to fit in for many....if I'd been too large, I would have gone for a C5 Corvette.

And just an update....the guy who bought it from me just wrecked it. He decided to use the passenger side flank to stop it from rotating with the aid of a Southern Live Oak. It's toast.
Another common problem in the S. "Spin2k", this interesting and unfunny game is called....

But my RL is already drooling at the thought of this NSX alongside in the garage.
This will happen only in my dreams. I've got a little one to put through college, after all.

Thank you for the update. Pics?

The rest of us will probably be saying the same as you next year, too. Except for Tampa ...and maybe me, too? Who knows...

The current Motor Trend arrived today and there is a 2 page ad on the 09 RL (interestingly in the middle of the Genesis review).

It is a front quarter view and dimly lit with healights and fogs illuminated (to distract from the toof?). Still, that gaping cavity looks like bats are about to fly out and swarm. (Do bats swarm?).

I vote the 09 RL for a Mad Max sequel.

*still bitter*

Sorry, I don't have any new pics. I guess I could take some, but I'm no photographer and they're still all wrapped up. They litterally were still on the truck when I posted that they were here.

I still love it. I was sick to my stomach when I saw it released at the auto show. I couldn't believe what they'd done to the RL. But then I saw it in person down in Pheonix at the TSX ride and drive. It really looks so much better in person. The current RL looks very old and plain to me already.

Interesting they are arriving and the website still shows the old 08. My dealer friend told me the other day that he heard they were inbound to some dealers already. I actually thought he might be wrong this time but I suppose he had good info

I believe residual is still going to be bad on the 2009 RL, which makes it very difficult to lease.

and that's for 10k/year. Don't ask what 12k and 15k are.

While I just above how much I love the car, financially, no I don't. I said 3 years ago that they need to kill the car off after the 07 model. Take the RL completely off the map for 2 or 3 years and then bring it back bigger and better than ever. Did they listen to me? No! haha

I agree with you because of the points raised a couple of pages ago. That's the same tack Infiniti is taking with the Q45, which was another fabulous, misunderstood car.

BTW, Did you get to drive the new RL at the Ride and Drive? If so, any impressions? The exterior may be controversial, but the interior is most certainly not based on what I saw at the car shows. I <3 cooled seats and XM Weather.....

I am used to the 09 now. At first it shocked me but now I am used to it. I think once you get used to its not so bad.

Plus the rear looks a lot better.

My local dealer says he expects them by the end of the month, so just a few days to go. He had a chance to check them out in person at some dealer only event not far away. No particulars yet about options like a-spec or fancy rims.

I didn't get to drive it at the ride and drive. They didn't even mention the car while we were there. In fact the only reason I even knew the car was there is because I followed some fellow salespeople around the corner at the hotel for their smoke break and we stumbled up on it!

Even with the modest power increase numbers. I think the 3.7 will be just what this car needs and finally put the "it needs a V-8" nags to rest for awhile. I'm waiting for this one to get done with the PDI so I can take it out.

Not me, get worse everytime I see it.

I drive by my local dealer twice a day to and from work, so I'll start looking for it and stop by to get the full horrible effect.

It is starting to sound like an invasion.

Are those salespeople or just lizard aliens planning to eat us all?

I better buy myself some granny goggles to wear when driving. I am worried about getting stuck at a traffic light with one across the intersection. Once I am stunned , the lizard people will eat me.

Are these variables direct from AHM?? My 2 local dealers told me they won't have this information until 1st week of July? Those residuals are rediculous, it's going to hurt sales even further. The CTS has residuals of 61%!! Acura is making it harder to stay on the ship.

I saw an ad for the RL in Car and Driver, and the car does not look bad. The power plenum grill was darkened and low lighted on dark gray body, and the leaves, and water, etc. made me think of old Infiniti ads. This front quarter view with the particular lighting works much better than the views we saw at the car show.

Just got a phone call from... the local Hyundai dealer. They're getting the Genesis next week, and wanted to set up an appointment for a test drive.

Frankly, I can't wait. If the car is close to the hype, and they can get me out of my RL and into a V8 Genesis for anything close to what I'm paying now, I'm jumping ship.

Yep, straight from them. We've had them since June 20th. You're dealership should double check their info. We almost always have residuals before the car is out. How else are we supposed to pre-lease these cars without this info? haha

I just drove the car. It is quite a bit stiffer than the old one. It feels in between the TL and 08 RL. Everything is alot tighter on the car suspension wise. The 08 RL always had too much of a "floaty" feeling for me.

As far as the engine, I would almost dare anyone to still say it needs a V-8 (other than status) The car is quite a bit quicker. On paper the it doesn't seem like the new engine added much over the old 3.5, but it translates to quite a bit more while driving. I guess you'd have to drive it to understand anyway.

That is interesting to hear. Appreciate your sharing your initial impressions.

I wonder if the suspension tuning will also eliminate ASPEC offerings? Or perhaps the current ASPEC suspension will also fit the 09?

I admit I would be curious to compare the ride and feel. I just need to have someone blindfold me until I get into the car.

That said, the only things I really lust for are the new ANC, XM Weather and cooled seats. None of which would entice me enough to consider this model over what I have.

Promise me this though: Go to the dealership with an open mind about the front end. Park next to the 09 with your car if you can. That's all I needed. Be sure to post back after you go.
