2006 RL Won't Start

So I jump in my car which has been very reliable and hasn't had any issue with starting.

When i get in, the car reacts normally. I go to start the car, then realize that i forgot something in the house and i turn the ignition off (the car never actually started) and run back in.

When i come out, the car starts acting weird.

I touch the handle and it unlocks then locks even though I avoid touching the sensor on the outside that locks the door.

It no longer reacted to pressing the unlock button on the FOB.

When i finally got in, the car acted as if the battery was dead (dome light dim, nav didn't come on when i turned to position II.

When i attempted to start...the dashboard went nuts, the car didn't turn over and then i saw a bunch of errors show up (sh-awd error, cmbs error, etc).

I tried to jump the car, which only resulted in the lights on the dash and the dome light getting brighter, but the car doesn't even try now. When trying to start the car, only clicking and lots of flashing lights on the dash.

Any ideas on where to start?

Thanks for the feedback, i was hoping it would be the battery (as opposed to the starter or something worse).

Any advise on a battery? Not sure if I should get something special for the RL?

There are lots of threads on the battery for an RL but I would buy an Acura battery from the dealer and get the 100 month warranty. Many advise going greater CCA's and some like the Optima red top.
Just make sure that it's flat top otherwise you will not be able to clamp the + terminal. Lots of cross references will not give you a flat top design.

Just to clarify, you tried jumping the car and it still did not turn over? Was the other vehicle equal in displacement or cold-cranking amps at the very least?

Also, I would heed recommendations on an aftermarket battery such as an Optima Redtop. I have owned two yellowtop batteries for two different vehicles, and they make all the difference in spending the extra cash for one. With the RL, there is no direct drop-in on the yellowtop side, however I did put in a Yellowtop D75/25 in my RL, and the only problem was making the battery cover fit in. It still fits, but the top of the battery is about 3-4mm taller than the original.

Check all the fuses make sure they are all good... Check the fuses by your driver side leg and passenger side...

if one is blown sometimes your car won't turn on... That has happened to me... just saying...

I would go aftermarket. There are plenty of batteries with comparable warranties that don't require going to a dealer.

Thanks all for the advice. I was in a pinch so I went with a Die Hard Gold (Sears was close to where i was at the time). It went in pretty easily. It was taller than the oem but, it fits.

I did make one mistake though, i forgot to put that plastic cover over the battery before i tightened everything up (does it matter?)

I'm a car noob for sure

As soon as i changed the battery, boom, she start right up. I think i may have a blown fuse somewhere because the radio didn't come on. The AC works fine (though i have no idea what the temp is).

I'm still a bit thrown off by the fact that there was no warning, the battery just went to dead beyond jump starting.

I'm going to have it looked at when i go for the B1 service (which just came on after the battery install).

The other car was an RDX, i'm guessing it should have been enough to get the RL going (if the battery wasn't completely toast).

That plastic cover doesn't matter. I left mine off because it didn't fit over the handle, and the handle is more important to me.

Did the car prompt you for the radio and nav codes?

something is VERY off if the car did not prompt for both codes... however, I would say that's why the radio was/is not working after installing a new battery

The radio fuse was blown. I swapped it out and now it's prompting for the radio and nav codes.

All is well after a very weird Monday

I'm having the same issue. Car won't start, and all these errors come up. The lights and stuff work, had the battery tested, and it was fine. But once it turn the ignition, I hear a click, and nothing. And everything dies. Any advice before I have it towed to the dealer?

Nevermind, turned out to be a dead battery and bad connection. Adjusted it, and everything works fine. A battery change in close to 4 years.....good enough I guess...

Entirely too many variable to consider to give a definitive answer. There are some members whose battery died before two years. I personally have gotten eight years out of a Honda / Acura battery, but also had one die just shy of four.
