2006 Acura RL w 165k? Is this a bad bad idea?
Hello All - I'm considering purchasing a 2006 Acura RL with 165k. Yes, 165,000 Miles. I've done much research, read many different opinions but have not come across much that speaks of much above 100k ...
The car is Mint, Mint Mint. Inside and out - even under the hood. It literally looks like it has 30k. It was a 2 owner vehicle and carfax shows no accidents.
I know that there's some maintenance (like a timing belt) that needs to be performed around the 105k spin but with 165 - I just can't seem to find anything that talks about this. I really like the car - I've driven it extensively on a test drive - and the dealer is willing to let me take the car overnight but I wanted to get opinions on if this is a completely retarded idea. Obviously the mileage has brought a vehicle that would otherwise not be in my price range with 50k miles - in my price range. Can I expect a Honda product with 165k to last another 5 years? Does anyone have any experience with an RL in the '06 area with high 100's or in the 200's as far as mileage? Any input and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The car is more than capable of going double what it has now. If it is indeed in the condition you think it is, then this is not retarded by any means. There is a member here who ran his to 300k+ and gave it to his nephew at 315k. The only thing to keep in mind is that there are things that are going to wear out on a higher mileage vehicle. Struts/shocks are the first to come to mind. If the price is right and you can afford the upkeep of wear and tear items at RL prices, then I would go for it.
If it makes you feel any better, I just bought a 2005 Tundra with 140k for $11,900 OTD.

i just bought my RL a while ago and it had almost 221k miles on it. drives fine and smooth still. mine has gotten all the required/recommended maintenance followed to the T in the manual!

Thanks KC - How Many Spins do you have on it Now? My hesitation is that I don't know the previous 2 owners followed the required maintenance to a T..

I have an 05 with 167K miles and everything works perfectly except one bulb on the AUTO button on the climate control. I did the timing belt at 105K but very little else. I am keeping this car on the basis of it's a Japanese Honda and that the 105K was half-time but it may have been just the end of the first quarter! Good Luck and I endorse your purchase.

spins? i'm unsure on what you mean on that. well, the car has been through two timing belts and water pumps and maintenance, and only had one owner originally purchased from the dealer. all records performed at an authorized acura dealership

I bought my RL back in 2011 with 165k miles on it and it runs great. I'm not sure if the previous owner did timing belt, etc. Only thing that went bad was the alternator and one the pulleys started squealing. Other than that it runs awesome, I love the car. It's a head turner.
