2005 Acura RL transmission swap

I have searched and read as much as I could. I noticed that the early 2005 2g RL can have auto transmission issues. I am trying to find out if the 2007 Accord transmission is a good replacement. I keep seeing that the swap has been made between the TL and the 07 Accord but there is no info about putting the Accord auto transmission in the RL.

The RL is AWD and the Accord is not so there's no chance that would work.

I've never heard of an RL having transmission issues

Agreed, I've rarely heard of transmission failures in the RL. It's fairly common in 2G and 3G TL's and V6 Accords of the late 90's and early 2000s vintage...

I can think of three cases of transmissions being replaced here since I joined. The torque converter is less rare.

What is is wrong with yours? Is an Accord or TL transmission that much cheaper than a remanufactured or salvaged RL tranny?

All is good. I just did the transmission flush and it remedied the issue I was having. I was freaking out and was thinking I was going to have to replace the transmission. Thanks guys.

I have a 2009 Acura RL

I took it to Acura to install my new TC and they did the 3x3 flush now I'm having issues when I'm in 4th gear and I'm steady on the gas once it shifts to 5th you feel it like shuddering and like laggy I don't really know how to word it but if I give it a lot of gas it won't do it. It's all the time that I go from 4th to 5th. Because before it was the TC in 3rd going like 30mph to 40mph. I think it's the transmission or tranny pressure switches im thinking of trading this POS in if I can't fix it

Are you completely sure it's not normal? There was a thread on this where the car allows 5th gear when there isn't sufficient speed to really support it, and the drivetrain seems like it's going to stall the engine out. I thought we determined this was normal.

I have never seen that post or heard of that. I should have bought a 2011 6 speed but those are rare as hell

Like projektvertx said.

Our RLs have a completely different, much sturdier transmission shared with like-vintage Odysseys and Pilots. If you were to swap transmissions, which as the others said shouldn't ever be necessary, you'd probably have better luck with those. But I also have no idea if SH-AWD messes with the compatibility of the installations, so I'd probably start with an older MDX. All that said, it's a lot of money to make your car a guinea pig.

If my tranny had a shudder, I'd probably try a fluid drain-and-fill first. Personally I'd avoid Honda fluid (it's a different and apparently inferior fluid to the now-discontinued stuff they provided when the car was new) and go for a full synthetic like Amsoil or Valvoline Dex/Merc, but this has been discussed at length in other threads.
