15000 mile service

Did any of you opt to have your in-cabin filters changed at the 15000 mile interval? This is part of my dealers service plan but I beleive the owner's manual states change @ 30000. I remember changing the filters on my 04 TSX at 15000 and they were not that dirty (not $100 dirty - dealer charge).

I changed mine @ 15,000 and again @ 29,000. It was pretty dirty both times. Do not pay the dealer to do this - it takes 5 minutes to do it yourself and requires no tools. Simply open the glove box, open the doc tray, pull the doc tray straight out, open the cover and pull the tray out that contains the filter, then swap the new filter in and reverse the steps to close everything up. The OEM filter costs something like $37, I paid $34 shipped from an Acura dealer on eBay.

I was hoping it would be that simple. $100 to change a filter seems excessive. I just bought my car but I'll remember your advice dwboston.

By the way, replacement time probably will depend on where you are in the country. Boston is east of the mid west and lots of industry. Miner is in Texas and probably has cleaner air. That could explain the difference in experience.

How easy is it to visually inspect the filter to check how dirty it is? Is it like an engine intake filter with white filter board or is it a charcoal thing?

I thought Texas was dusty? The air isn't that bad in MA outside of all of the pollen. The filters are white, so it's very easy to tell whether it is dirty or not.

Part # is 80292-SHJ-A41.

Here is a picture, it's the square one on the left:

NJ? Well that explains it.

We have the toughest emission standards in the country, next to CA. Air quality here is generally pretty good. It's the harbor and rivers that were polluted (and are now much cleaner).

There was one step I forgot to add to the DIY - after removing the doc tray, there is a piece of fabric aattached by velcro at the top that needs to be pulled down to reveal the cover of the cabin air filter compartment. It adds about 2 seconds to the DIY time.

Yes, but now I'm living the "good" life in Central Florida. I can breath much better now. I'm also much calmer and don't want to rip someones head off everytime they cut me off on the road.

If I can just avoid getting struck by lightning or debris in a hurricane, I think I've added several years to my life. That's the real key to this plan.

Is Elizabeth on fire AGAIN!??

I was raised in Woodbridge and a Rutger's grad. You would think I would be immune to toxic soup. Still I have had more allergy issue in Florida for the 25 years I live here.

If I still live in NE NJ, I would change m filter weekly!

Thanks for the steps. No cross bar to cut like in the TSX? One filter only and when you say pull the doc tray out do you mean remove or just extend out towards the passenger seat?

Nothing to cut or unscrew like the 03 TL-S that I had. And only one filter - the filter is in a plastic holder - that's what you pull out of the slot, then remove the old filter, put the new one in the holder, and put the holder back in. It's pretty self-explanatory once you see it.
