Chevy wasn't much better. THey had the Chevy Vega then the Chevy Monza, which then evolved into the Cavalier/Pontiac J2000.

The Mustang II was also a choice for Pinto owners going upmarket.

My ex-wife brought a '79 Mustang Ghia (4 cylinder) into the marriage.
What a horrible POS that was. That alone was reason enough to divorce her.

The reason for my lack of success... not knowing 1960s and 70s domestic products. Give me an air cooled VW and I'll tell you all about it...

I used to work in my uncle's auto repair shop in my high school days. and I remember those engines. He would send me to a salvage yard to pull an engine out of a wrecked VW Bug. I have memories of laying on my back in the snow using nothing more than a floor jack and a couple wrenches to drop that puppy.
We would then take it back to the shop. Sit it on a bench. Run the fuel line into a gas can, and connect a battery to the starter and that sucker would start and run right on that bench.

Man, are we all old farts. I remember the POS 1976 Chevy Nova my parents had brought over to England brand new. It spent more time in the shop than on the road, and my dad spent innumerable hours under it. I haven't considered a GM product since until the new CTS.

I love those cars. I own one myself.

As a MB tech, I know the pros and cons of the product. For a overall build quality between Honda/Acura vs. Benz, I must say MB is not up to par with Honda. The quality control seems to lack a whole lot compare to Honda. (seems like all their cars are built on a Monday or Friday) I had my share of problems with my 02 TLS ie. Trans, CV joint clicking, and minor squeaks/rattles. Most second gen TL's have similar but minor problems, sometime there are "off the wall complaints" which doesn't occur much. But Benz, they have all sorts of problems from electrical to engines to suspension. Everything on those vehicle fails. Since I started working on MB, I dont think I can be more happy with my TLS, even with all the problems I have had.
