06 PAS System

I spent past two nights reading thru different threads regarding PAX and de-PAX but did not get the following questions answered.... so i'm reaching out for some help.
  1. Is this on 05 and 06 with tech package only? How about 07? Did they come with it as well?
  2. Why does it require new set of rims? Can I not just install conventional 17" tires on the factory rims?
  3. If you change-out with new rims/conventional tires, do you still have to reset the PAX system?
  4. If i'm a second owner, can I NOT claim $100 help on the spare kit?

Thanks in advance.

If you read through ALL of the PAX threads, you will have all of your questions answered... but to save you some time and seeings how I can answer all of these questions off the top of my head, I'll do so.

Is this on 05 and 06 with tech package only? How about 07? Did they come with it as well? PAX came on 2006-2008 RLs with the CMBS/ACC package. This package didn't exist for 05. In 06, they called it the Tech package. In 07 and 08, they called it Tech with CMBS/ACC.

Why does it require new set of rims? Can I not just install conventional 17" tires on the factory rims? The PAX rims are special and have a big plastic hub in the center of the rim. You CANNOT install conventional tires on the PAX rims, even though the design of the rims looks like the non-pax ones.

If you change-out with new rims/conventional tires, do you still have to reset the PAX system? If you change out the rims/tires, then you need new TPMS sensors for your new rims. You can re-use the ones in the PAX wheels, but for the cost of ripping those out, you might as well buy new ones. Assuming you install the correct TPMS sensors, then car will pick them up automatically and register the tire pressures normally. Since the car doesn't know these are NON-PAX tires, you have to ignore the message in the message window saying you can still drive 125 miles if you have a flat.

If i'm a second owner, can I NOT claim $100 help on the spare kit? You might have been able to if the offer hasn't expired. But that class action settlement has already expired, so you are SOL and get no help from them.

Well said. There are other details on Wikipedia under Michelin PAX System. It is fairly accurate.

OK so i'm in the market for new set of rims. Hope to land on take-offs. WHat year should I be looking for? 09 only? or would 2010 model fit? Also, instead of putting conventional tires, can I purchase non-flat tire on them instead? so I don't have to go out and look for spare kit.
