05 RL question about oil

I just got my RL last month and have no clue what to do about changing the oil. My BMW has a alert system that notifies my if I need a change. Does the RL have this? How often does it need to be changed? Also, what kind of oil do you guys use and where should I go to change it? Sorry about all the questions but I don't want to have problems because of negligence and it only has 18K miles.

Any info in much appreciated.

I don't have an RL. Came close to buying one and did a lot of research on it. The car has a MID, which tells you when to bring it in for service.

However, I'd say that a 6 month/7500 mile interval is safe for oil changes. I've read conflicting stories about the extended OCI on BMW's and the engine's sludging up. So I'd go conservative.

I believe the RL takes 5w-20. I'd do it myself, with synthetic. I personally use Mobil1 in my cars. Amsoil, Redline, Penzoil Platinum, are also good synthetics. If you're not a DIY person, bring it to a dealer.

Yes

Press the SEL/RESET button in the middle on the right hand side of the steering wheel hub and it should scroll until it shows OIL LIFE and a percentage value.

5W20 synthetic.

It will tell you when it is due. It is not due yet.

At 15% you will start getting annoying notices to think about changing your oil. You can take it anywhere. If you take it to other than an Acura dealer, you may have to do the reset yourself. It is a few menu steps on the MID (Multi Information Display) and is well explained in the manual, with pictures...

The 20% means the MID thinks there is 20% of the life left in the oil. Since the mileage of the car is so low (18K miles in roughly 3 years), assuming you don't know when the oil was changed last, time wise, I'd change the oil now. It doesn't hurt.

As I posted earlier, if you're not a DIY'er, bring it to a dealer, which other folks have said too. The cost differential is insignificant IMHO between the dealer and "anywhere"..
