Post 05 RL is missing maybe 06 will be the year

The 05 RL is missing a few options in no paticular order;

1. Back up camera or graphic back up aid (would be fun)
2. DVD video player (who cares, its a drivers car)
3. Automatic windshield wipers (speed sensitive is not the same)
4. Distronic cruise control
5. Ventilated seats heat and cool
6. Electric passenger seat with memory (come on 6-way including lumbar on almost 50K of car)
7. Automatic turn signals (click once blinks 4 times)
8. Rear heated seats
9. More hoarsepower and torque

Acura if you are reading, I feel that #'s 1, 6, 7 are items that shouldn't be overlooked. And as for item number 9 i would pay dearly for a factory or dealer option that increased power. Specially if its in the way of say 400hp combined hybrid.

Anyone else have any information on if 06 will be the year for the above. People say ventilated seats and possibly distronic. What about 8 way power seat for the passenger plus lumbar.

Automatic turn signals? WTF? I would hate these. These don't have a place in any car. People don't use turn signals as it is and having these is just going to confuse people more. I can already see the morons getting pulled over and telling the cop "But my turn signals are supposed to be automatic, officer!"

Memory for the passenger seat? Why the fuck would anyone waste money on this? Hell, I don't even want my passenger seat to be power. Dead weight if you ask me.

Backup camera...I'd rather have the back sensors. The camera is too distracting. Keeps you from actually looking back, like you're supposed to.

#5 exists in every RL/Legend outside of the United States.

#9 seems useless. The car already sucks on gas...why do I want more HP to have worse fuel economy? I do agree though that if a hybrid system can be used then that would be great....I just wouldn't want a bigger engine that is worse on gas simply to get a little extra acceleration that in 95% of every day driving isn't needed.

#3 and #4 would be nice. Not all that useful (I have experience with both) but would be nice to have I guess.

#2 is useless unless a person has people in the back. I see the dvd players more as a "bling bling" type thing in cars.

#1 is not something I see as a big deal. I'd rather have parking sensors around the car than some backup camera that most likley would make drivers focus on it when backing up rather than looking at everything around them.

6- totally agree....the lack of height adjustment right now is lame and cheap...anyone who tries to defend this decision by Acura is obviously biased. However, I dont need memory...just want height adjustment for it.

7- never have seen turn signals that do that. That a new style?

8- would be nice but for someone like me it is useless.

Good list even if I don't think some of the things listed would be that useful for me. Excellent job son

Good to have if possible...

Agree.

9. More hoarsepower and torque
I don't mind... I do like to have more powerful engine inside...

They should restyle the wheels. Perhaps make 18 inchers standard.

Also they should look for ways to reduce weight (improve balance).

Your eloquently put comment while apreciated might be a little off point.

1. Automatic turn signals; for those people that don't use turn signals they shouldn't be in a car (everyone needs to signal lane changes). And if you can't figure out the pushing once on the turn signal brings about a few blinks you aren't going to be able to figure out NAVI, Blutooth, etc.

2. Memory passenger seat: Was not a big point, the point is the passenger seat of the car needs height adjustment. For 50K when my girlfriend drives the car I should be able to sit comfortably. I guess if your not tall it might not matter but for me it does.

3. If you noticed my comment back up camera is not that important but a graphical display would be nice. Ala Mercedes not BMW. Mercedes has a very nice solution for when you have your head turned around (looking out the back window) there is a small graphic display that show how close you are to the vehicle behind (SL500).

*Now that I have that said. The reason for my post was to see if anyone thinks these items would be nice or if anyone knows if the future RL 06 will have them. I am sure if the car came with these extra options at no charge you wouldn't turn them down. In which case its better to just push the things you really like if its not importand no need for comment. Lets all just get along.

Take a look at RonJon's new wheels (if you haven't). I have put a post up asking what the weight is. If they are lighter then stock or the 18's I am in.

Thanks for the post. I agree with you on the engine but at the same time I like driving that last 5% a lot.

Auto turn signals; A lot of German cars have them (AUDI BMW MERC). You push up on the turn signal and the blinker blinks uaually 3 times I find 4 would be better. If you push down it cancels the blinks. You still have the option of pushing the stock all the way and it stays till you turn. It's nice for lane changes on the highway. I am a big advocate of turn signals. I have seen to many accidents happen because of failure to signal. Also would be an easy option to turn off in the computer for the few people that wouldn't want it.

Obviosly Acura assume that their owners are stupid because they have a chime to tell you that the automatic headlights are on and the door is open.

1. The $50k Lexus GS 300 I test drove has this. Nice. I wouldn't mind having it. Now with that said, the MDX has it!!!

2. The Accord and TSX offer a rear seat entertainment system. Why not the RL or TL for that matter.

3. As has been said, the MDX has it. Speed dependent wipers are a pain as I'm always adjusting because rain doesn't remain steady. One minute is pours, the next minute it sprinkles, the next it is a gentle rain, the next...you get the idea.

4. It's in Japan!!!

5. As has been said, everywhere else. We most likely will see it in the MMC.

6. Major over site!!!! How many cars in the $50K class subjects passengers to a none height adjustable seat???? Memo would be icing on the cake so that your favorite passenger can just press a button and presto!

7. A major lux item. I'd perfer to see on Acura's rumored sedan above the RL. The only car that has this is the S-Class. Not sure if the 7 or XJ has it. But those cars cost how much??? People looking at buying a "captain of industry" may not consider the lowly RL or even an E, 5, S-Type, etc.

8. Infiniti's I35 (R.I.P) had that and cost as much as a TL.

9. More Hp. Well Acura should have created a larger motor. I think the J35A is at it's limits but I'm no engineer.

All this stuff is great but as I've said and others before me, the RL was built to a price point. It is already stretching things with its price tag. It doesn't LOOK big but compair it to the competition and what you'll see is that the RL is ONLY lacking in wheel base. The other measurements are same, greater, or slightly smaller.

1) Lack of a rear back-up camera ia almost a deal killer for me.
3) I like the rain sensing wipers on my MDX.
4) My FX has laser guided cruise (I like it but its not a must have - hey Acura some things can be optional)
5) Cooling seats seem to be a requirement given the competition (the $45K M35 has them)
6) The GS has 3 memory positions for the driver AND passenger.

Thanks for the update. Lesser cars have the auto turn signals. Audi A4's and up have it. I don't find that as a major lux item. Its very simple to do. Just a slightly different programing for most cars. Not sure if the Acura uses software or hardware for the turn signal. But either way it shouldn't be difficult.

I just test drove the new 3 this past Saturday and it too has auto turn signals. Not bad. Kind of nice. I got use to them real fast.

Acura will have such a feature by the year 2010.
