Has anyone put a windshield in their RL recently??

Call Marshall's in Circleville as they have a used unit $80 and either they might install or know of a shop that will.

The same thing happened on my wife Odyssey a couple of years ago and my insurance covered the replacement. Most insurance companies cover windshield replacement. You generally on have to pay between $50 and $100.

OP there are multiple prices regarding how you gonna pay.

1. Insurance ---- whatever the deductible in your comprehensive policy stated (please stay away from Safelite they are horrible)
2. Dealer ---- Most dealer will call a glass specialist which ranging anything from $700 and up (notice they will use aftermarket glass)
3. Dealer OEM glass ----- OEM glass design to keep the noise down to minimum so OEM replacement with labor is around $1800.

Glass replacement at a local shot like Henderson's should run about 200-300$. On my 1G RL, it was 225$ before insurance chipped anything in on it. Long story short, a chunk of overpass fell on the glass, Wayne county refused to pay since I technically couldn't prove anything. It's probably a little more on the 2G since there is more labor/parts removal involved.

The problem is if they willing to ship them, I tried buy OEM glass for my TL and they cancelled the order and their reason was they can't ship glass that large.

Unless things have changed in the last year, there is no such thing as an aftermarket windshield for a KB1. PPG doesn't make one and neither does Pilkington so your only option is OEM and the cheapest I have seen with all of the clips, seals, dams and garnishes is about $1100. Add another $200-250 for a reputable installer and you're looking at a $1300 windshield.

Don't ask how I know.

As of a few years ago, I knew there was aftermarket windshields on the 2G. I was doing chip repairs ND I had that conversation with the glass guy. Unless they discontinued all options, I find that strange.... Do you mind elaborating? I'm curious as to what's developed?

Sure. About a year ago, my original windshield was toast. Pitted, scratched, swirls, you name it. I went on the hunt and checked at my local reputable glass repair shop and I was told that neither PPG or PIlkington had an aftermarket replacement for the KB1. I even went as far as to call both manufacturers and confirmed that statement was true. I did find that there was a cheap-o Chinese replacement but it didn't the green tint band nor the noise barrier layer of the OEM and also tended to be wavy so I sucked it up and bought OEM. I have noticed that Acura has dropped the retail price on the OEM from about $1100 to $893 and if you have a local dealer that will discount for you, even less. I strongly suggest buying any dams, clips, seals & rubber sets for the OEM so as to ensure the correct fit as the foam rubber set gets destroyed when the old windshield is removed and most windshield guys don't bother with it unless you hand them all of the parts and the install instructions from the FSM and tell them to install it like it says. They'll just goop that damn 3M Window Weld on there, plop the windshield in, pop the garnishes on and walk away. My guy took his time, cleaned everything out, installed all new everything and was finished in about 3.5 hours.

You can go cheap but you'll just be buying another one in due course. Like an old friend of mine once said, "Buy the best and cry once".

I once had a Safelite "special" free of charge windshield replacement through my insurance and never again I will go after no name china aftermarket. The windshield curve isn't smooth you can see where it have a straight vertical line down where it should be smooth bend, like guy mention above make sure you get all the gasket and seal kit other wise you will have moisture inside your windshield when it rain or snow. I called Safelite and complaining and they said "sorry but there is nothing we could do at this point" also they left glass chip all over my dash and seat from removal of the old one.
