First Impressions: Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 (V-rated)

I pulled the trigger and bought new tires for my 2017 RDX Tech. It was time to replace my Kumho Crugen Premium (installed by the dealer I bought the car from). They gave me 52,000 miles of service and were close to the wear bars. I narrowed my choices to the Pirellis and Continental CrossContact LX25, the highest rated tires in the SUV/CUV Touring All Season category on Tire Rack. Sam's Club has $80 off the Pirellis until December plus I received a $40 discount on tire installation, making the Pirellis about $140 cheaper than the Continental (about $15 more expensive per tire). All in the tires were $840. Not bad considering how expensive tires have gotten.

Immediately noticed a much quieter and smoother ride. The Kumho had gotten loud over the past year and not as smooth with speed, possibly slightly out of balance which is common as tires wear. I thought I had drivetrain issues but it was the tires.

Never had issues with grip on the Kumhos but I'm not an aggressive driver. This is my first time with V-rated tires. I hope I can get close to the 70k mile treadwear rating.

Hi

I'm looking for tires on my 2017 RDX as well.
I did consider the tires you have. How would you rate them so far?

The spec for these tires show they are 34lb, which is 6 lb more than the OEM tires. Would you know if you fuel economy is any worse / better with these tires ?

Thanks!

So far the Pirellis have performed very well and I am happy with the purchase.

My old tires were Kumho that the selling dealer installed before I bought the vehicle. I thought they were fine but I had a slight rumbling at high speeds (over 70 MPH) as the tires wore. The new tires have been smooth.

I'm not sure what you are refering to the pressure being 6 lb higher. I go by the tire pressure on the driver door jamb which is 35 lb for the front tires and 33 lb for the rear tires (I have the Tech trim). That works well for me.

Just purchased these tires July 3 '24 for 2015 RDX Tech AWD, excellent tire so far. Quiet and handles spirited driving well including heavy rain. Mounted on 2024 CR-V +40 offset with Integra center caps. Came from 245/55R19 MDX +55 wheels with 15mm spacers / fuel consumption is improved by over 1L/100km average.

PIRELLI SCORPION ALL SEASON PLUS 3 BSW 235/60 R18 107V

I still love these tires. They are wearing evenly and still quiet. I'd still recommend these tires.

I had the PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON PLUS XL
they started off great… as the thread weared the noise increased. They are stiffer tires so the tires lasted much longer than I expected. More than 55k miles.

Sounds good - how many miles have you put on them?

Not sure I follow when you say "They are stiffer tires so the tires lasted much longer than...." Stiffer tires usually refers to the sidewalls and that translates into a firmer ride. If you meant the rubber compound is harder - then I understand that leading to an overall longer life, but the trade off is handling usually isn't as good.

Yeah - I meant rubber compound being harder. I never really pushed the car to any limit to test out handling. But on highway exit round abouts I remember I could hear the tires make the screeching sound when it looses a bit of traction when going around the curve. This is when the treads wore out more.

Was at 228 kpa from the tire shop, felt sloppy so up to 240 kpa all four. Response and L/100km improved.

I have about 20,000 miles on the tires.
